Hmm, now that you mention it--forgot this one.
I know little of this pic except that is around here, close, in the 1920's. That's my Mothers Dad on the far right, but that don't look like my Grandma. Could be. They were married here in 1920.
I was the only gearhead in all of the family. They all always seemed to discourage it.

Curvy, The Indian 6 was built by either Bud or Herb cause there are only two of them in existance... Truly amazing work...

The way I understand it Herb built the first one with the welded up crank and when Bud saw it and commented that he would like to build one Herb replied "Go ahead if you think you can" So Bud proceeded to build one with a turned crank. Bud is the one building the Sport Scout with electric start.

Indians were built with bumpers so they could tow Harleys

IMO, the best of it's time. Fantastic race bikes!
They used ball bearings as opposed to bronze bushings in the engine.
They also developed a patented spring front fork that was the forerunner of the modern telescopic front fork.
Also... The monoshock rear!
Insterad of primitive atmospheric pressure intake valves, Merkel designed a cam actuated mechanism.
Merkel also invented the throttle-controlled engine oiler waay before HD and Indian.

I saw this at a local vintage show. I think it's an Indian?
