Absolutely! I rode today with someone that says he's familiar with Whatton and does day rides frequently. The next couple of weeks are booked for me but I'll definitely drop you a note whenever we head down there.

XT225 Panniers

Added some panniers to my XT225 today. They are Plano dry boxes. I used u bolts to attach them to the grab handles.

Rio Rancho to Badlands ride

Here is a link to a ride report from today. I was on my XT225 enjoying the small size and light weight while we were in the rough spots.

XTjerry,
There is a little gap between the pannier and the exhaust shield since the box is resting on the steel loop by the passenger peg.

NICE idea! My main reservation is that they are going to rotate up and down (in and out at the bottom) and will really stress out their attachment points. If you can figure out a way to fix them at the bottom, maybe attach them with another u bolt each at the passenger peg spot, it will stiffen things up a bit. You don't want to spill your beer that you're carrying in there!

You could also build an attachment system that still attaches only to the grab handles but has a metal arm that extends down and attaches at the bottom of the box...

I'm also worried about the exhaust heat. If it looks like the box is getting some heat damage, a metal shield between the exhaust and the box would be easy to fab into your attachment deal probably; maybe even flange the shield and attach it to the box so there is air space between the shield and the box. A single sheet of metal like that will reflect a LOT of heat.

Keep us up to date though, it's a really great idea...

It's time for me to buy a rear rack. I've ruled out the Load Lord because it's not flat on top, although I like it otherwise.

I'm down to the Turbocity Borrego or the CycleRacks. Does anyone have anything bad to say about either one? The CycleRacks one looks a little wide to me maybe...but I kinda like that it's wide too. D'OH!

I don't like the Happy Trail rear rack, but I do see their hard bags in my future. I'm thinking maybe that the Borrego would work with them but the CycleRacks rack might interfere. Has anyone attempted either?
