Here is an update to this:
http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...d#post19283900 I finally got around to taking the engine apart and found what the problem was. The rotor came apart. A couple of the magnets came off of the rotor and locked up the engine. I hope it did not mess up the stator. I know about the change in the charge output in about 2001 or so. Does anybody know about the compatibility with the older and newer charge systems and how interchangeable they are? I have read about it and cannot find the link. Please post the link if you can. I will need to check the resistances on the stator tomorrow and see if it is still good. It would be good to upgrade the charging system if I have to buy the parts. Thanks

I sold the stator but have a spare rotor from a 2006. Check the part number on a 1992 and an 06 to see if they are the same.

Thanks. Good idea. It looks like the part numbers are different. Also it looks like the pictures are different with different wiring plugs. There is a rotor on ebay right now for a decent price that I will probably buy after I do a little more testing of my stator.

Update
I checked my stator this morning and got abetter look at it. I could already see before I put the meter to the leads that the wiring was damaged. It is toast. There is no continuity between any of the leads. I guess I need another one of these too.

Not if if she looks as good inside as she runs. No smoke. Strong power. Great mileage. The leak is minor. I'm just fixing it sooner than later. With 24k on the odometer, it's a good excuse to peek around inside. My lifestyle depends heavily on this bike so confidence in reliability is a priority.

Bob, You'd better be careful with Half Pint. I'd hate to hear of her gas milage dropping down into the 70's, from the 100's!! |

shock wanted
Looking for 2002 shock. If anyone has one for sale, let me know. Is it common for these to blow out? i only have 500 miles or so on it and it blew out.. granted, it was at bald eagle, but still... should I be looking at an aftermarket one?

My Russell Day Long came in today. Wow, what a great looking seat. Took it for a ride around town and it was a huge improvement. I'm sure it will really shine on my long distance treks. Bike rides on thee front of my Excursion on camping trips.

I can sell you a stock shock. I don't know what you mean by "bald eagle". PM me for a price.

Nevermind. I answered my own question. While cleaning the crankcase today I realized it's seamed down the center plane. Two motormounts sandwich it together in the front. If crankcase bolts were loose it could bleed out there. My bolts were tight and above the crankcase.
