My SO, Write2ride, has a Clarke tank on her XT225 and used a Giant Loop Fandango tankbag this summer on our cross-country trip. I used the same tank bag on my DR650. While not completely waterproof, it is much closer than any of the other ones I have tried. It's a good fit, not too large, and doesn't extend back into the rider's space.

Here is a pic of it on her bike somewhere in Arkansas on the TAT:



If anything happens to this tank bag, we will replace it with the same thing again.

Funny, I bought a K&N air filter for my Porsche and I could not get it to fit.
Maybe that was a blessing in disguise.

I use No-Toil filters in all of my bikes. Just order the TTR225 one it is the same. Are No-Toil's the best? I don't know, but I do know they keep the dirt out, and with the No-Toil filter oil, grease and cleaning kit, cleaning the filter is so easy I do it more often makes it worth it to me. I clean them in my kitchen sink.

Also, one of the first things I did when I got my bike is to make sure that the controls are a little loose on the bars. You want them snug enough so that they will not move during normal use, but will move in a crash. You should be able to move the controls if you grip them firmly with your hand. That will save your levers and perches from some crashes.

I also do not understand the need for crash bars. The bike crashes very well. Biggest issue in crashes is the forks getting twisted in the triple clamps.

The biggest issue with dropping an XT, especially if you stall it and are not moving is that the mirrors will break the perch, which on the right side is part of the master cylinder. Continuously removing and reinstalling the mirrors will probably eventually strip the aluminum threads in the perch. I bought a used dual sport once that had stripped threads in both perches. I epoxied them in place and fortunately never dropped it. I also have cut down brake and clutch levers to help prevent damage in a tip over.

My wife has the Joe Rocket Manta tank bag and it works well for small stuff, ie drinks, snacks, phone, wallet etc.

I am trying to adapt the TT230 filter type to my Xt225. I have had good results with duel density type foam fitlers but dont like the small flat panel used for the XT225.

I tried the K&N air filter, and the bike ran terrible. I went back to the stock one, and all was good.

I've been thinking about doing the "Z1" modification to my muffler as seen at http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthrea...er=7448&page=1

Would anyone happen to have any sound clips of how it sounds afterwards? I've read that it's "not bad" but I'd rather play it safe.

I did the mod using a 1 1/8 dia. extension hole saw I had. It is louder than stock but pepped it up quite a bit. Some riders have opened up the baffle to almost eliminate it. I think that is un necessary as the headpipe is only about 20 mm ID.
Start with a 3/4 drill and see how you like it.

i heard 3/4 will do it and not be as loud as full mod...dont know myself tho'

I didn't have the hole saw handy, so I just drilled a number of smaller holes, like a salt shaker.

Well, I bit the bullet and did it. Not too loud at all! I haven't taken it around the block, but it seems like it started much more easily and has better throttle response when I rev it.
