This Wednesday I picked up an '07 XT225 from World Motorcycles in Henderson, Nevada (SE area of Las Vegas). The price out their door was $4050, but I still had to pay $154.81 sales tax & $85.04 registration back in Kingman, AZ. So total cost was $4289.85, not the best deal, but OK. The local dealer wasn't going to get an XT225 till March, the dealer in Lake Havasu City had just sold his last XT225 & the dealer in Bullhead City wouldn't come down from an OTD price of just over $4600! World Motorcycles had a used '06 XT225, but sold it just before I called them on Tuesday. I have only put about 32 miles on the bike on residential streets & slow country roads. I'm breaking it in right so not using much power yet. After getting over the initial awkward feel of a new bike I like the way the XT225 handles & know it will be better after I get it set up & can use full power. My other bike is a '06 DR650 Suzuki I have set up for longer adventure touring. The XT225 is so much lighter & much more nimble, I know I will enjoy it off road. I can actually lay it down flat & pick it up relatively easily! I also plan on doing some longer tours on the XT225. I will be checking out this & other sites for mods to improve the XT225.

Welcome.You will love your XT. I got mine used with 3k on it for 2500 so I think you got a great deal. I added a Yamaha tail rack and a new horn, and other than that I am happy with the stock bike. You will see everyone tricks there out with mods, but mine is a blast. I am going with a different front sprocket to give it better highway manners, but that can wait till spring.

Just picked up a 2002 xt225 with 350 miles on it. Supposed to be for my son to use off road while I ride the Husky but it's a pretty fun ride all in itself!

Took the wife and her x-mas present ('01 XT-225) out to a family fun ride this afternoon and we all had a blast! The XT, even with about 15% of it's tread left (previous owner rode only on the street, 3,600 miles of original knobbies gone) it took to the single track and forest trails just fine. In fact, I doubled her along one of the steeper trails covered in loose wet leaves and rock with a bit of loam to it. Zero problems! I *love* these things! Welcome to the 70 mile per gallon while grinning from ear to ear club!

Hello.
I like what I've been hearing about this bike.
My wife has been riding a TTR-125L offroad and wants a dual sport type streetbike. Being a DR650 rider I was so happy to hear that. Every bike she has sat on has been too tall or too heavy except for the XT225. My DR is in motard trim but I'm looking for a dirt wheelset so I could change back and forth from sporty street riding and more "hardcore" dualsporting. Am I wasting my time to have the same idea for the XT225? Is it worth having the second wheelset for the bike? Has anyone done anything similar?

Well one of the main flaws with the XT is the too small spokes and soft hub metal. I've currently got 2 full extra sets of wheels TTR225 bolt right on. One will be aggressive offroad, one for light dual sport and maybe lace some 17's to the last set of hubs. Either way they are all getting excel hoops and spokes so as not to mess up the hubs.

Just ran across this thread (I'm usually looking for KLR650 stuff on here since that's my bike, but I've got a 93 XT250 for the wife)
It is a great little bike and a blast to ride. Very fun to ride through the woods and so stinking light you can just about pick it up and move it whereever if you run into trouble. One of best mods I did was to disable the stupid "safety" switches for the clutch and kick stand. I was having trouble getting it started and it was because the clutch switch was bad. The other easy mod was to drill out the baffle. Someday I may get to the carb, coz this baby sure takes a while to warm up and run smooth, but when it does it's a blast. My wife is just learning to ride and likes it, but I think I've gotten a bit more seat time on it. I wouldn't trade my KLR for one, but as another bike to zip around on you can't beat it.

I spent a whole day on one of those kids bikes ttr125 at the local ohv and out of a cr85 2 stroke and ktm 125 2 stoke the ttr was by far the most enjoyable. Fickin thing would go anywhere.

I'm currently looking for another xt225 for myself or a xt350. I think I might like the 350 better but it is nearly the same bike.

I'm planning to buy a new XT225 today or tomorrow. Plan to use the bike for fairly light trail plonking in eastern PA and NW Joisey. (However, I have a tendency to push myself to my limits off-road and on tracks, and with this bike, I'll probably find its limits, too.)

Also want to have it for the girlfriend and for my 75 year-old dad, who hasn't ridden in thirty years, has failing health and coordination, but who is itching to go for a putt again! He has short legs, too, so a bike that's light, low, and lacking power is the ticket.

So, can anyone help me with a couple of initial purchase/set-up questions?

First, does anyone that uses an XT off-road go to the trouble to put rim locks on? What about slime in the tires?

Second, what about gearing? I don't plan to take the bike on any multi-lane roads, but will probably be looking at some steep hills. Are slightly smaller counter-shaft sprokets the ticket?

Any other initial set-up things I should go for?

Am waiting to get approved to post on XT 225.com. Meanwhile, I hope some of you might share your experience with me.
