Valley Forge isn't too far for me to ride. You typically know of some good dirt trails or stick to the street mostly?

Looking for a Riding partner in Philly.
New to dual sporting, looking to hit some great roads, maybe a little camping, some dirt roads. Just looking for someone to ride with. I don't care what you ride, as long as you ride safe and live close to Philly. |

I broke my leg April 27th. Still not able to put all my weight on it. Therefore, I can't swing my leg over the bike. BTW. I ride a KLR. You may be embarrassed riding with me. LOL |

I'm hoping to be back on the bike within three weeks. I see my Ortho on Wednesday and get more x-rays. Hopefully it will be good news. |

Hello from the greater no named mountians of North East PA
I am up here as far east and almost as far north as you can go in PA.
Up here we have more dirt roads then paved. This is the greater Equinunk / Callicoon / Hancock area. We have mountians to ride, twisty turny roads both dirt and paved. Some of the best fishing to be had in both the area lakes and ponds and the creeks and also the upper Delaware river. We have roads here for every type of bike and very few police as we are near 40 miles from their barrecks which is near Honesdale to our south. During the summer there are atleast two and some times four duel sport rallies just over the border in NY at Hancock. These rides are run by two motorcycle clubs out of NewJersy, if I recall I think one is called Bear Creek MC and it's sister club of RidgeRiders MC. At all events there is camping and good times had by all. On the PA side of the river, ride as you like, just be curtious in the small hamlets such as Equinunk, Lookout and Lake Como. But remember a life flight is a long way off if you get too wild. As far as just across the river, They have better paved roads, but also more police patrols, so if your a bit wild when you ride, I suggest staying on the PA side of the river. It isn't that we have no police, just very few so the odds are with you. Up here we have a number of "Closed Roads" That just means that you take them at your own risk. If your riding a beemer with street tires, these kind of roads not suggested unless you are very apt on your machine. But as I said. Up here we have roads to suit any type of riding. From high speed sport to real off road on a closed road. ( and this is why i live in this area with my FZ and KLR.) As I was saying, for you duel sporters we have more dirt roads then you can ride. We have abandoned train tracks minus the tracks that even a big bike can ride at speed with ease. As far as lodging, most lodging is done in the Hancock area as they have several small motels in the area as well as bed and breakfest. Hancock NY is right on the NY/PA border so not like you cant ride as you want in PA then go relax in NY. As far as camping, that is semi limited. There used to be more when I was growing up here, but a few closed down. There is hidden valley in Equinunk right on the Equinunk Creek. ( Equinunk is only a hamlet with a Post office a General store and a bar that serves finger food.) On the Bramen Road there is a camp ground right on the Delaware river, but I am unsure of its name. It is close to the Kellam / Stocker bridge that goes into NY. There are a few fish camps on the Delaware that have camping as well. All of these are on the PA side of the river. If you are looking for a certain type of riding please let me know and I can advise you what area roads are best at testing your skill. If your looking for just nice slow riding with great vistas on dirt roads with little to no traffic, just ask. You ask why am I premoting this area? All we get thru here most of the time are Harleys and they only ride on one of our few paved roads. I would like to see a vaired collection of bikes and bikers who want to ride as they want to ride either on the pavement or our areas vast network of dirt roads. Many of our roads don't show up on most GPS, but there are free county maps to be had from local area stores. These maps are on the crude side in black and white, but they do show all the roads. As far as eats to be had up here. I will tell you of my favorites and I will tell you why. If you want some really good italian food with a great vista there is nothing like villa como at lake como. it is a little resturant with a hotel over looking lake como. Not far from the "B&O" trail. The villa is a nice ending meal to a great day. Food quility is as good if not better then what you could get in little italy NYC and Pizza to rival famous Rays, but a whole lot cheaper. It really is worth the trip. Up in Hancock there is the " Circle E " dinner a local fav as it is a real old school diner. My fave and a few of my friends fav is their monster burger. its a pound burger with two grilled cheese for its bun with the works and fries and two onion rings on top. price wise, it is much cheaper then any fancy burger place. it is cooked to order. As far as bars. On the PA side we have Two one in Equinunk " Carol's" and in lookout we the " Long Branch" ( or what ever they call it as it was always called" mountian view" as I was growing up here.) both serve finger foods pizza and such. the food may not be much, but for the price it is good. Both have cheap draft beer and mixed drinks, but their hours vary. if no people they close. ( Back in the day they used to stay open late as they knew we were all running the "loop" ( Like old time cafe racers, we wouldgo from lookout, to equinunk to hancock to long eddy to hankins to callicoon and back to lookout or stopping and staying where there was the most fun.) So the local bars knew if we came back, it would be with a crowd chasing us so they stayed open waiting. Well, our roads await you. And yes we have critters of all shapes and sizes and yes most of them do bite. This is not a petting zoo. lol Hopefully I will see you up this way.
