Yup, it would be much better to tear up 100 year old piece of history and poor new concrete than to put up a sign.

No. It would be much better to pull up the stones, level the ground and then re-lay them.

Though the historical value of a sidewalk is debatable.

from what I've read, theres a pretty good elevation change right there and the loop was the easiest way to deal with it
