Just reposting this info:

for the riders who just joined in. Just so you don't have to go through pages of info...

From Atikokan, we follow Hektogliders flight plan.

Any other riders want to join in, they're welcome, but as with any group ride, when the
train leaves it leaves. In this case, the train leaves Dryden at 10:30 on the 15th, and if anyone misses it, we aren't waiting. On the bright side, we're a bunch of old farts,so we don't ride like maniacs!

We have an USAF plane crash to find as well. Supposed to be right where it crashed,
with one wing in, and the other out, of the water.

I also havent heard from Northrider, (Kenora) or RedRyder (Souix Lookout) yet.....

Sounds good, we can use your knowledge of that area for navigation. It looks like we will run the rail line day 3 or 4 up north.I know where Goodie Lake is but Centerfire Lake I have not tried to find it yet.PM me an E-mail address and I will send you the GPS data for the ride. This is the XRL today getting new head bearings, chain sprockets, valve adj, among other things.

Winter is a good time for moto maintenance for sure. Keeps a guy in the spirit. Unless of course you happen to sneak away to Mex. I spent some time making the XRR a little more dual sporty over the winter. Looking forward to giving it a go. Waiting for a new606 rear tire for it. Last one lots most of its knobs between Presidio and Creel last fall, but it was fun losing them.

I am working on a better waypoint file. The one I sent out was more about the tracks for day 1 and 2.It looks like that Centerfire is close to Goodie Lake which is a real nice site.

I just came back from there..(Goodie Lake area) the road is pretty rutted
up, no big deal for a dirt bike. (I took the truck up, too friggin cold to ride)

RedRyder, you must have been on the same road I was on today.

I didn''t try to go down to Centerfire, my truck is 2WD

To those who I sent the latest waypoint file from Hekto to,
make sure you have the latest Mapsource. Don't use the auto update, it may
give you a "CPU error". Go to the site and download/install it manually.

So we have the challenge of finding the crashed plane. May I propose another challenge? On one of the GPS maps Hecto made, it looks like we can get within 5km of gps co-ords 49N 91W. Why is this important? There's an internet project to visit and document every degree confluence on land...and this one hasn't been visited.

Homepage here:
http://www.confluence.org/

Ontario map here:
http://www.confluence.org/region.php?id=37

You can read my non-moto related visit to 51N 96W here:
http://www.confluence.org/confluence.php?lat=51&lon=-96

(dunno if you remember Ron, but I PM'ed you 2 years ago about 50N 93W - but I don't think I told you WHY I wanted to go there. I made 2 trips to Dryden to reach it and failed both times. A few weeks later someone else got it. I'm still pissed that I didn't enlist your help.)

June/July

The co-ordinates are close to the road, but not very close to the rail line.I am flexible about the routing, especially days 3 and 4.You can see where the first 2 days take us and there is some spectacular stuff just east of there to see as well.Like I had mentioned several posts ago..."one ride will not be enough to see this area".The rides I done last year invovled fairly steady seat time to accomplish each days distance.
I am looking at routing for some other rides I plan on doing this season. Also we should start considering when the Summer Ride can occur for those who would like to go.I plan on running down into Minnesota and exploring some areas along the most northern roads in the state.(Echo Trail Forest Road etc) which could be combined with some routes on the Canadian side.If this is the "Summer Ride" or if we run a different course in this area? Open for planning .........Hektoglider
