Garmin Maps for Egypt?

I live in Cairo. I am originally from Seattle.
I don't have a bike here, but I was out walking and saw a couple of "real"
motorcycles in Cairo the other day. One was a bmw R12GS and a Suzuki "Djebel". 650 dual sport.

They had South African plates, with egyptian temp plateszip tied on.

The GS had a garmin gps unit. It was still on and showed
a detail map of the part of town we are in (Zamalek)
including bridge and street names with routing.
It was showing his last turn for his hotel.

I hung around for a while hoping the riders would come back.
But no joy. I wanted to leave a note but I had nothing to write
with.
I want those gps maps!
The garmin site doesn't have anything with that level of detail of
Cairo.

The Europe maps have some very rough detail of northern africa,
but no good details.
The Middle East map include Saudi Arabia and the emirates and
that's it.

A quick google doesn't turn anything up.

I want those maps!

Anybody got any ideas where to locate such?

i wanted to return the favour re the links for a workable gps map for egypt provided on this thread. im not really a biker but maybe one day ;)

open street map is an open source website that collects maps from people all over the world and free public sources to build its database of the world. you can get programs that will turn these maps into img files for garmin devices or whichever you want but someone has taken a prepared grid map of egypt by user:computerteddy and turned it into a garmin gmasupp.img you could drop into the garmin folder on your device.

its completely free, at street level names of minor roads are lacking but cairo, and to a lesser extent alexandria are well represented. it doesnt have much touristy stuff but for driving around cairo and egypt it is very useable.
