I talked with Ara this afternoon. The diagnosis is a failed final drive. One of the u-joints disintegrated. It will require a new drive. There are a couple of other issues to check and they won't know about the transmission until they can test the final drive. With the weekend coming, it may be a couple more days before all is known.

On another note, Ara has been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone.

Who would guess at the karma revealed by a breakdown in the middle of Arizona high desert.

Hiya, Ara-

I sent you a teeny amount of cash, and I hope that it's useful in any way. When you come back through Atlanta, swing by and introduce me to Spirit.

a difficult entry, thoughts traversing right and left, the fear of not being able to cover the repairs. As it stands right now, we cannot. It is the big one. We only have a few days ahead while staying at a friend's house, the heat is intense here in tucson and no transportation. I swallowed my pride in this new entry and in the journal asking for help comparing these 658 chapters written these past almost 5 years, thousands of photos, maps, a few recipes, as the physical entity of a few coffee table books, a subscription for a magazine? We are cornered. A couple days ago, only 50 miles into our ride the rear wheel locked, foreign loud noises of metal coming to pieces, i knew it was going to be it for a while. Our dear friend “dean” drove 780 miles these past two days to get us to tucson at the “iron horse” bmw motorcycle dealer. Amazing how life has it's valleys and peaks... It was not long ago awaiting for biopsy results on myself, today it is awaiting for a different kind of mechanical illness to be taken care off. I am hoping to have this ability to appeal to our readers, i know at this point the future path depends on you, it truly does. It was an interesting concept how “old faithful” was put on the trailer and taken off. Many have already been involved through this process of getting her here hoping for many more to get her out of here and get us going again.

Be safe and well.
Peace, love and courage.
Hi Ayr, Sent you some cash. Hope it helps. Good luck with the repairs. Keep riding.

In.

The adventures, pictures and narration of Ara and Spirit were one of the first awesome things I experienced here at ADV.

Tossing a few bucks to keep that going is a pittance, indeed.

Good luck, Ara and Spirit. Keep the dream alive.

Just got on line here and glad I did!
You guys and gals overwhelm me! What else can I say as again and again "the community" has allow me to rest my mind a bit regarding these repairs. Yes, the final drive is being replaced and the transmission, well, there is still a verdict to come on that. As far as final drive I am going with new BMW parts, 2 years warranty unlimited mileage and that includes labor... A new bike is not in the picture, specially a new model. Cannot restart mounts, shocks, you name it. "Old Faitful" still has a lot of miles to go... Never thought how attached I have been when I saw her up in the air on 2 lifts (she is fat!!!). Will know more tomorrow pm.
Thank you, Thank you... I will thank individually everyone that has stepped forward to cover those expenses and taking myself steps for this to never happen again, the financial Plan B was not thought about... too much confidence built up...
Be well... Ara & Spirit

Thank you!

All of us at Motorcycle Tire Center here in Vegas are hoping to see you back on the road soon and traveling to a cooler destination. We sent you a little help via PayPal and hope to see you soon. (when it cools down of course) You know you always have a place to stay in Vegas. Our prayers are plenty for "old faithfull's" recovery. Take care, we will see you and Spirit soon.

Any word yet? Stopped by Iron Horse today and saw your rig, looks so sad with the back wheel off.
