I own a 2008 vstrom 650. I ride the bike fast. I continually get 270miles to the 5.8 galon tank when commuting . When i ride rural I get well over 300 miles to the tank. Its the best bike I,ve ever owned the swiss army knife of motorcycles. I've rode mine in dirt sand , rocks rain and snow it will handle it all you throw at it .Then get on the highway and cruise. Suzuki was right on with the vstrom creation.

My wife and I both ride 2011 650 Vstroms and consistently get about 55mpg. I have Happy Trails aluminum panniers on mine and have noticed no decrease in mileage.....if it's there, it's not enough to worry about. 260+ on a tank with a little to spare.

I wish I could get 300 miles per tank. The first fuel bar usually starts blinking around 215 and the final bar around 230. I think the furthest I've gone is 250 or 260. That's a mix of surface street commuting and highway. Although I do usually ride a gear low so I'm always right in the powerband so as to avoid moron drivers.

Is it 6 or 5.8? Is 5.8 taking into account the fuel filters volume in the tank?

The gas tank actually holds a smidge more than 5.8gals if you fill you top it completely off. I have pumped more than 5.8 gals a couple of times {I'm not to worried about running out as I generally carry three spare MSR bottles of fuel in tool tubes}. I get rap mileage compared to many as I run pretty spunky gearing {14/50} and I tend to play alot and run 10-20mph over the speed limit. Even so, I can generally average around 40mpg and I get at least 200 miles per tank before the gage goes to blinking. Even once you have a blinking gage, you still have plenty of time to get fuel. Yea, I have averaged better with up around 50mph and have averaged middlin 30s. Like every says, your results may vary.

Funny thing,,,,, I have three pretty different bikes and they all average right around the same mpg. The XR650L is an air cooled 650cc single, the DL650 is a water cooled twin and the FJR is a 1300cc 4cyl and yet they all average around 40mpg for me.

I have a stock 2005 DL650 and I usually get 53mpg. Though last tank I got 55mpg half mountain roads and half desert highway at 75mph.

I would say 220-250 miles is pretty safe.

My 2012 650 gets me about 210-230 out of the tank depending on driving conditions. I do a good bit of stop and go commuting to work. I only have 900 miles on the bike at the moment, so it might improve a little when I get more miles on it and it breaks in some more.

My 2006 will do 56mpg if I ride around 60mph on the highway. When I ride at 85+, it drops to the mid/low 40's. No matter how I ride, I can get over 220 miles to a tank. Best I have seen is probably 270 or 280

I get 230+ miles before the last bar stArts blinking on my 2012 and I know I have about 8/10 of a gallon left. I can easily do over 250 miles with about 1/2 gal still left in reserve. However, gas Milage goes down to about 45 mpg if I am going over 80mph and range is less.

my last fill up was 5.3 gals to 298 miles. this is back roads/city mix. i should have filled up a bit sooner since my tank is only 5.7 gals total capacity.

I've had two 04s well one one was mine one was the wife's.
Both of these bikes started the first flashing around 180-190 and the second flash around 200-220.

We both are heavy handed with acceleration and both bikes had madstads, knuckle guards and a topbox.
I noticed zero change with and without the hard bags.
Oh and out of CA where the gas is better the bikes got slightly different mileage.

On my 12 I'm getting the low gas flash at 200 miles with an indicated 47-49 mpg.

Updated on the 12,
220 miles on the last tank with the fuel pump icon having been flashing for a while. I put in 4.something gallons of gas. Topped off to just below the lip of the filler neck with bike on a centerstand.
