Heh.

In '75 we were the only ones in our neighborhood doin' it seriously....Cadillac wheels with loose bearings; Chicago trucks; homemade decks. We were all-around skaters and lived on our boards. Downhill, freestyle, and homemade ramps. Later, ditches and banks and pools and pipes. We would hear a rumor of a cool piece of terrain and travel miles and miles to investigate. Some great adventures there. McGraw-Hill, over the fence; Michelle Molinelli's pool that summer when they had to do repairs; Taurus drive to Center Road.....sometimes we even wore shoes.

I still have a board and skate once in a while. Have not made it to the park down in Missoula yet....but my boys (7&10) are after me to do it.

Just a warning... My nephew wanted to get into rollerblading, I happened to have a set sitting in my closet collecting dust, so I joined him for a ride at a local park. I hadn't ridden these things in years, but wanted to show the little guy what I used to be able to do. After I got back up from my crash and regained my focus, I decided to sit down and let the rest of the pain set in. The bleeding wasn't too bad and my wrist didn't seem broken, just sprained. I think it was a good day to retire my rollerblades...

As ridiculous as it sounds, I've been searching around for stuff on the web along the lines of: "too old" "skateboard" "new"... you get the idea. Being confined to a cubicle day in and day out is driving me to find new ways to taste freedom. I'm starting to get this urge to (re)discover all those things I never did when I was younger.

I'm excited to push my boundaries, regain some balance, and quite possibly break my arm (never done that before, either!). 30 is the new 20, right? Wish me luck...

Why the hell aren't you riding your bike instead?

If it was my deck I just might

Shit, he's eligible for parole in 3 years. That'd be sweet to be waiting on him outside the gate, talkin' 'bout "DUDE, sign my fuckin' DECK, man!"

Thanks a lot for starting this thread.

The bank account is a couple hundred lighter on account of buying boards for the kids; we have been to the skatepark three times in the last two weeks; my knee and my achilles tendon are sore as hell.

What a blast though.
