How about a Snakeboard? (It is not comparable to a Rip Board).

I still have one, but have forgotten how to ride it - it was difficult to learn. Was reasonably proficient with it when I first bought in the early 90s though. Not good for speed, but for perpetual motion and ultra tight cornering in confined spaces, it was a blast. Used to ride around the inside of my apartment... kinda like this guy .

indeed. i showed those, and the other ones below them, to a friend who's a old pro skater, and he laughed and said those red ones wouldn't survive an hour on hte street, and the silver multilinked ones on Rico's next post, he'd actually tried and broke the first day, just doing sharp turns. ok for cruising, not ok for hard pumping.

my mom sold the first one I had at a rummage sale for $5.

That skateboard now occupies a place of honor on the mantle above the fireplace. I think I'm going to go ride it later on.

What would be some brands to look to if I wanted to get into this?

I used to board when I was younger. Then aggressive skated for years. And was damn good at it too!

I'd like a longboard more for general cruising. No tricks really. Cruising mostly.

I don't need a top of the line board. But don't want a piece of crap. I've seen Santa Cruz setups for $115ish on amazon. Arbor setups for $160

I'm about 6' 170lbs.

Also I think for cruising I want a pintail shape correct?

Thanks in advance!

My SoCal sk8 friend, cYa the wild Samoan, would be happy to sell you one of his signature cruising boards, set up for his 'skogging' style of long distance hauling... he does like 35-50 miles daily on these as a workout.

http://skogging.com/pedidexterity/

he explains why he likes flat and stiff and non-pintail for cruising... also how he sets up the front vs back for turning...
http://skogging.com/pedidexterity/my-model/

looks like a complete setup runs about $160
http://www.sk8kings.com/Merchant2/me...de=SK8KINGS080

or the board is like $55 and do your own risers and trucks.

been taking my son to the local skatepark, he is having fun but wants of course to be good without any practice and not where any pads or helmet . He has to wear at least wrist/hand protection and a helmet or I told him we go home
I have been taking my board too, and having a blast. The other day I didn't have my board and took a few spins on his, I had loosened up the trucks a lot since he doesn't weigh much he cannot carve otherwise. I always thought it would be hell if I rode it, but I really enjoyed the smooth tight turns. Now to go loosen my trucks for the next visit. Hope I don't get a speed wobble!

^^nice

Took the boy and our long boards to the local univ campus and had some good long mellow carving sessions. Kid ends up on the loaded bamboo deck and me on my sector nine which is basically a regular board just long! put some nice soft cruiser wheels on it and it is loads of fun, can even ollie the thing when needed.
