Nothing crazy. Went for a little local ride. Pics show trimmed handguards and new mirrors.

I'd bet with a fresh wiring harness it would run!

Manitowish, Waters Wisc.

The lodge on the lake where John Dillinger and his gang had the shootout with the feds and got away.

They made part of the Johnny Depp movie there too.

Still serve a great omlet!

The .45 slugs messed up with the shitter upstairs in a bad way.

Considering indoor plumbing was still a novelty, this must have pissed someone off....

New to ADVRider

Hi,

I have been lurking for awhile now, new to ADVRider this week. I've been reading BigDogs post on old bridges really neat stuff. Here is my KLR after some gravel/low maintenance road riding looking for an old bridge in Iowa.
Stock except for cheap tires, AGM battery, LED lighting everywhere, stock headlight for now, and new grips.

The bridge was gone but the water crossing was not a problem.

Took this one after crossing. Neat pic with about an hour of sun left.

Thanks!

I love the pre-'08s! The quarter faring reminds me of my old GPZ 550 & that's a good thing. I also love the look of the 6.1 gal tank & radiator shrouds when sitting on the bike & looking down at them.

The "08 & newer look a little bulky & too streety to me. The KLR is already a heavy pig so I don't want it to LOOK heavy as well. If I ever get an "08 or newer, Ill drop the front body work & go with some kind of custom set up.

I know some guys like the new look & that's fine. What looks good in a bike is simply a matter of opinion & it was the "look" of the pre '08 KLR that got me to pick it over a DR or XL 650.

I agree, the Gen. 1 bikes look better. One of my riding buddies has an "08, he broke the shroud on one side in a low speed tip over. He bought guards and a week later had a fall that bent the guard and broke the shroud. Like most '08's it used oil big time. Kawasaki rebuilt the top end, piston and rings, no problem since then. I would like to get a Gen 2 but it will have to be 2010 or newer. I would remove my front shrouds, odometer, head light, tank from my Gen 1 bike and convert the Gen. 2 to a Gen 1 look.
Had anyone done this conversion?
