Yamaha XT600

It only has 8200+ miles on the odo. I bought it back in August from the 2nd owner who only put 750 miles on it the year he had it. The handle- bar mounted windshield is a National Cycle brand. I don't care for the way the windscreen looks, but it's functional for riding in Kansas in the winter months. This is my daily commuter. The bike is a blast around town & wooded trails! I've been searching the web for a used rear rack, but ended-up buying the expandable hard-mount tail-bag. I really wanted a dual-sport, and just stumbled across the XT. I really like it! You don't see very many of these either! Plus, I only paid $1200!!!

'84 Xt600?

I'm looking at buying this 1984 XT600...has 22000km (13750miles)...guy is asking $900cdn...

I had an '96 XT350 and loved it...how would this bike compare?

What should i be looking at with this year/model?

I'm thinking if I could pay around $500...and make it winter project...

Buy it dammit! If you like the 350 the 600 will impress you more. I have 33k miles on mine! The 1st gen bikes are lighter also. Chuck the battery for a electrolytic capacitor to lighten it a bit more if the DMV will allow. Inspect the drive shaft for wear/welding and listen for knocking from excessive piston/cylinder clearance.

Only thing I don't care for is the black scoops and sidecovers. I made mine red.

Assuming it runs, and if you can get it for $500, I'd get buy it. But, I'd want to hear it run before I threw down any coin! I've heard of worn or cracked valve guides in the XT motors. A little smoke on start-up from worn valve gudes (after all it is a 25 year old bike) would be normal, look for continual smoking. Still, for 500 smacks, you could still buy a new piston/ring/cylinder kit and have nice XT. Good luck!

It'll blow away your 350 in every aspect. Get it before it's gone.

Looks great! Does it do the job, and does the mask bend on wind? Please give us a side look!

I'll go take a picture for ya.

Im 2 meters tall, and the bike is raised in the back, so the windshield doesn't "cover" me, but takes of a lot of wind. Theres a rouring windshiled availible for the xtz's which is around 10cm taller, if you want a "real" windshiled, this is probably it. This 3/4 one is great for me, not to big for offroading (no head decap) and not to small at the streets.

I've only riddin with it once (70km) but no, no bends ore stuff like that.

I bended the windshiled abit together, to make it stand up more, and not just follow the lightmask, otherwise it would lay to much down, and point mere towards me, than up. Hope that makes sence. This also makes it stiffer, and not able to bend down in the wind.

I'll run down and shoot a couple of pictures, hope its not to dark for the cameraphone.

I'd like to put a small windscreen on my XT600 as well, but wasn't sure on the ideal height. I want to see over the top, but yet high enough to deflect most wind over/around my body..... if that's possible.

Me2, I think this could be it for both of us. Heres some pics.

I'll see if I can get a buddy or the gf to photograph me on the bike someday soon. You can adjust the height a bit, depending on how high/low you mount the windshield.

Note: The handlebars have been raised 4cm, and the handlebar itself is higher too, so the windshield might seem a tad smaller than it is.
