G shock suck-eth

Wearing a G Shock that was given to me as a (in the) wedding party gift last week and it was very new/rarely worn.

Used a sawz-all and looked back down to see the thing is completely dead....

It's solar powered and satellite set, but dead now so whatever.

I recall my older G Shocks could be pretty tough, looks like the new are shit.

Formal event? Pheh...a Hammy Jazzmaster Chrono would make a pretty nice presentation.

I agree. I was hot to trot on a new GMT but when I finally got one in hand I decided against it for that reason.

But now I am reconsidering that decision and prowl the Sales Corner like a madman looking for someone desperate.

The current crop of Rolex bezels is being made of Zirconia. Sure, you can think of this as "ceramic", but it's among the very hardest and toughest materials that you're gonna come across. More like a white metal. I work with this material in the dental implant world- and it's truly amazing stuff. Ours is rated to 1200 mpa- whereas, the Titanium we work with will deform at around 700 mpa. If you think about the durability of the aluminum that they used to use, this is a major step in the right direction. You shouldn't really have any issues with a Zr bezel.

I thought it was pretty snazzy too. But it's a mixed bag...pretty damn scratch resistant, but more prone to shatter. So, when it goes...it really goes. not cheap to relace, as Gerry mentioned...it does happen.

Bummer. The one I posted a good while back has lived through some hard core single track mountain bike action as well as all my dual sport rides on the Pig and the WR. How old was it?

I received one of these as a gift last month.

Beautiful watch, but sadly I don't wear watches. I think I'll give it to my dad so it at least gets used.

I've got one that was issued to me almost twenty years ago. Basic black G-shock. Probably replaced the battery once, as well as the little strap holder on the band. It has been the watch I grab for all my flying (keeps great time, easy to hack, and dual time...Z and local), as well as anytime I know I'll be doing something that would beat it senseless. After all these years, the case has begun to deteriorate and break away from the watch in chunks. I've thought about writing Casio to see if they will refurb it...not so much for cost of a new one, but for sentimental reasons. This watch has been to five war zones with me, 3500 hrs of flying, and never let me down. I'll post a pic of "ole reliable" when I get a chance.

Sorry to hear yours is not doing as well. Another reason for me to keep the old one.

There are ways to buy a nice, reliable watch via ebay from known sources.

Check this post and thread.

I purchased my SMP used from a well-known seller on MWR and saved much more than 50% from retail. The watch is like new and has well over 2-years left on the warranty.

The explorer came from a well-established timezone seller. This watch is 10-years old and was two seconds off over an entire week when I wore it last:

You don't have to be well-funded to purchase a better watch - watch timezone or MWR, learn who the frequent sellers are, buy the seller/not just the watch, check their references and let someone else take the depreciation hit.

Edit: If you really, really want to buy a new Omega, I can share the FAD* info from the Omega forum.

Is that Jim at C.? I bought my 2254.50 SMP from him a couple of years ago, great price, excellent service (had a product problem, he made good on it immediately at no cost to me). If it's someone else, would you mind PM'ing the contact info?
