No special reason. As I noted previously, it's such a joy to take out the next one. Watches, IMHO, are one of man's most perfectly fine-tuned machines.

Hm...not likely at that price. Maybe you can find a used Ball that low. Most of the under 1K tritium are quartz, the Luminox brand for example, I think. The Marathons I think have topped 1K in automatic, but you could check.

BTW, not many have day/date AND the 3, but there are some.

The tritium is the rare part, the rest of it is reasonably easy to come by.

Daym, that things more steampunk than gearhead. But great cripes think it's BIG enough? Makes a Deep Sea Sea Dweller look like a ladies watch!

I mean, it's neat enough. Not mechanical, by the way, it's quartz timekeeping with stepper motors - not a bad idea and kind of cool to watch - no pun intended. But how would you wear that monster?

Marathon M-16 from West Coast Time. Has everything on your list except day/date.

Have to say I'm tempted by the Seiko SNDA 57. Anybody have one? The only downside could be the case size.

by the way, what do you think about LUM TEC watches? Somehow I got a feeling that their watch design are very similar to Bell & Ross, Panerai and other well known watch brands. LUM TEC are cheaper version of these previously mentioned watches?

Don't have one. They use ETA movements for the most part, have a variety of nice looking watches. They made a bunch of watches in the Vietnam era, then went out of business then back in. I like their stuff, as homages go, they make a nice one without being entirely a copy.

Their production is not usually high volume so they can be hard to come by.

I'd be happy to own one, if that's worth anything.

For a little change of pace, here are a couple of mid-eighties Seikos that I recently picked up on ebay.

Very good watches. At least as of a few years ago, Mr Wajs was still alive and I exchanged emails with him. I suspect that once he passes, O&W goes with him.

Yeah my daily wear Tag Heuer 695.706KA has a 2824-2 movement and it's 21 years old. Right now it's 17 seconds slow.
