1 month of daily riding, daylight and at night. No one here has given me a hard time about the Whelen light. Worth every penny to me. I love it.

Do you have yours set to blink still?

I've got the TIR3 I put below my license plate set to solid, thing works awesome.

mine's still on the progressive triple blink pattern. I notice the road signs in my mirrors reflecting the light at nite.
It flashes sort of like the eyes on this smiley--- only faster.

Actually, ... that's also what the people look like behind me.

To AARDSCHOK, what did you order exactly? The picture looks like a clear lens, but when I look at the Whelen site it seems like the lens would be red. Also, do you know if it can be set up for a running light and brake light? Do you have it set up for the dual function?

Thanks.

The light I ordered was Part# 01-0663507526.

Its a sync. style ballast. No dual function. I have it wired into the brake only. The style I have lets me either choose to synch flashes with other units or a single flash pattern,(1 out of five, IIRC) or set to steady on. This is achieved by how it is wired. The light is way too bright to have on as a running light. As a matter of fact, Im thinking of getting some clear ones to mount on the front as turn helper lights. Like a Lincoln or Caddy to flood light the area that I'm turning into.

All of these super LED lights look identical until you add power; the color is in the LED, not in the lense.

Yep, but with the Canbus system on new BMW's, I did not have a choice. The Canbus always applies power to the brake light, pulsed for lower illumination, and steady for brighter. That works fine with incandescent bulbs, but for the LED it was almost full power. I would guess 70%intensity as a running light. So I wired in a resistor to lower it. Of course it lowered the brake light power as well, but it still is much brighter than the stock bulbs. So it is now a bright running light and very bright brake light. When riding in the rain and fog, I like the idea of having that bright light behind me.

How about one of these; http://ridesafer.com/store/item/qrqu...ake_Light.html

I bought one and so far I am happy with it. It's just a 1157 LED bulb with a wireless transmitter built in. The Receiver LED's just stick to your helmet.

I have heard that the batteries don't last that long, but I am testing that theory now.

I will try to get some night photos.

Grizzy.

You can set it up as dual intensity, but you do it with wiring and not the built in circuitry of the lamp module.

You'll have two power leads running to the +12V lead of the Whelen.
Line one is for the running light, and includes a resistor to reduce the voltage that the Whelen sees when the running light line is hot. I also included a diode to prevent flow the other direction when the other line is hot.

Line two is the brake, and is full bike voltage. Just choose a resistor that gives you the intensity you're looking for. Can't remember what I used, but I went for dimmer as opposed to brighter as I like a *big* step up in brightness when I hit the brakes.

Not my idea, incidentally- cribbed it from one of the bike forums.

aardschok you almost imply the thing is TOO bright.

If you were to do it all again would you get the 500 again ... or go down a notch to the 3 LED TIR3 which only has 3 LEDs and assumablly a slightly lower light output ... ?

So I found a dealer in Edmonton ... I have ordered the WHELEN LIN3 model with an aluminum swivel powdercoat mount.

I'm not aardschok (and don't play him on television), and will say that the TIR3 is plenty bright.
