Dealing with the KLR grip glue is a rite of passage for new KLR owners, much like getting sodomized is a rite of passage for new prison inmates. Or something like that....
I found no other solution but to whittle the crap off. 'Course, it was all for nothing as I now have Pro-Taper bars and I shoulda just switched to those first. The stock ones bend pretty easily. Iffen yer putting on heated grips, make sure to wrap the clutch side of the bar with a few loops of electric tape, or shrink wrap, to insulate it. Keeps the heat from being conducted directly to the bar. Especially true on aluminum bars! Oh, and, if your using heated grips, consider upgrading the grip glue - standard grip glue or hairspray softens witht eh heat and allows teh grips to slowly turn after prolonged use. Especially noticeable if you are wrenching on the bars offroad, like after a drop. I used Gorilla Glue, no problems with the grips spinning now.

After some inner reflection ... I bagged the stock bars and went with the Renthals. Heaters and new grips went on easily.
The stock throttle grip came off with one slice of the blade and a couple of hard tugs. Thanks for all the previous suggestions. |

I was so happy to ready that not only my 09 KLR has this glue on the grips. Only NASA could have invented the stuff holding my grips on! Do most dual sports, have some type of glue holding on their grips?
