Exactly what I did on my 530 since the thermo switch supplied with the fan didn't work.

12 volt domestic LED lamps

I was looking in a lighting store today and they sell Osram 4 watt 12 volt A/C LED lamps for down lights.
Now I know that the stock headlight is A.C. and nominally 12 volt, so would this work as a spotlight globe?
If the stator is giving out single phase power, than at 3600 rpm the frequency would be 60 Hz, so a lot of the time the globe would be running at very high a/c freqquency, but would it matter?
The specific globe is
Osram LED STAR MR16 20 25.
Just for a laugh I put one across the headlight and it seems to work fine.
Don't know how long it will last though because I think the stator isn't very well regulated. I measured 30v A/C across the headlight !

This is a great bike and the frame was upgraded to the oval tubing in '05.
There is an issue with the starter gear aka idler gear for that year only that should be switched to '06 parts.
There is also a shifter locking lever that has ball bearings in it (they all had this until '07) that should be changed out with the one that has no bearings as it can disinigrate and put little ball bearings in your gear box and ruin your day.
These are both easy and inexpensive to do but are very important.

For more info go to ktmtalk and search in the rfs section, lots of info.

hey all, Ive got a question about the display unit, mine has completely packed up, the sunlight has blackened one corner, my current display is in klms, and I am looking at a second hand display out of the US which is obviously in miles, is there a mode where you can switch the settings? as I bought the bike with the damaged screen ive never really worked out how to use all the buttons/modes?
any help would be great

Quick question that may have been answered elsewhere but do you guys reset your suspension sag, or change springs, to accommodate the extra fuel and camping gear or just load up and go? I am at the top range of my spring rate for set up. (04 450 exc?)

Yes.

My EXC450 and 950 ADV are able to display in both miles and km. The manual for my '06 EXC tells you how to do this...should be the same for yours.

Don't change the spring rate, but add some preload to correct the sag.

I tried to get from Attapeu to Pakse (Laos) via the southern route, down near the Cambodian border on the weekend.

Didn't make it... drowned the bike, flattened the battery, pushed it a ways and then left it on the track for 24 hours while I walked out to get the battery charged.

This was the easy bit, going in

Wrecked my best.... and only.... pair of riding boots trying to kick start it... then had to walk 5km in them... through swamps and mud. I think I'll be riding in my shoes soon

Lotsa cute girls in the village

Fresh food too. Mostly rats with one squirrel

Had to throw the oil away after only 3 days. Bugger

Last time I had to carry a KTM, it was the Super Enduro... and it was easier than this time. Thick sticky mud, a couple of short, skinny local guys and a slightly built woman and a kid. Still we got it through, dry.

For once, I'd have been better on the Super Enduro. It'll go through water and slop at least a foot deeper than the 525. Its intake is via a snorkel right up under the filler cap and its plugs are well sealed. Between the bike and the village there was at least two more spots that'd drown the 525... or require a long carry, and I was told there was a lot more further on, so I turned back. My visa expires tomorrow, so I couldn't risk an extended stay out there. I'll do that road next trip.

I eventually got back to Attapeu and made Pakse via the middle route over the mountains, through Paksong. Some interesting riding in there, over pretty major landslides that have stopped anything other than bike traffic getting through

Not the most stable road I've ever been on. That's a landslide waiting to happen.

I've got a new tyre coming in overnight on the bus... an IRC 110/80/18. Woo Hoo....
