Some people are just timid, and tend to think any changes will ruin reliability, or that the factory make something the best it can be (and ignore emissions and noise restrictions).
I have modified all my bikes for more power and never had one wear out, or blow up, or break down.

I never had a bike wear out a motor, but have got some stock used ones that were worn out.
I put a big bore kit in an old xl250, plus a cam, and that thing ran great for a long time with lots of abuse.

Now I don't think you could double the power output of a motor without running into issues long term, but your usual 20% seems fine.
I am sure your typical bike looses at least 10% of its power in intake noise and lean burning mandates.
And that only makes the motor run hotter and have a shorter life.

Oddly enough, my current bike does NOT seem to be limited by the usual intake, exhaust and lean burn restrictions.
It seems to be valves and cam stuff that limits power.
Even if they made a big bore kit, it would do nothing...

Im not against displacement changes, but what's with that jittery graph for the 351?
Different dyno or something?

I guess some people like to smooth out their graphs.

I've observed the effect in several places on advrider.

I believe you. I haven't noticed it in the other threads to which I'm subscribed. However, if it can happen to this thread, I don't see why it can't happen to other threads. I hope they fix it.

Holy cow, Klay! I just noticed; you have almost 71,000 posts at ADVRider! That's a lot of posts, even with your 6-year anniversary arriving next month! Congratulations, and thank you for all the great information you share.

What happened is that the post with the dyno charts had an embedded style tag. Probably pasted from an external text editor to create that table. This had a font definition in it that screwed the page.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation, Cug. I'm glad starting a new page fixed matters.

I think it was the spreadsheet that did it.
Should have pasted it in a word processor first.

Na, they all create pretty crappy HTML - it isn't too much of a problem normally. Have seen worse.

All in all, the numbers are quite interesting.
the 351 makes power much lower than the wwr, but the wwr beats it in the end.
The KLX on the chart is a fuel injected model, something we don't have here in north america.
I read some place else that it only does about 17 hp at the rear wheel with a carb.
I never could understand why the numbers are all over the place.
