I'd totally say it is doable. You could drive a stock 4x4 over the main pass road. It does seem to be a pass that changes year to year.

Going from Leadville seems to be easier than coming up the east side. There is one maybe 100 yard section on the east side that'll make you pucker. :)

Yeah, I've gone up the east side and then dropped into leadville...on a DRZ it was no problem, but I do recall plenty of bar-shaking rocks along the way.
