OK, home now. Mind you this is a state highway in California. On the East side, it is one steep, twisty goat path remnant of the gold rush. I cannot describe it well enough for you here; no matter what I would throw out.
If you have never been to California, places like this DO exist. Just not in soap operas and movie sets.

Somewhere in France or Italy (we got lost), found a huge old fort. This was the end of the road for us, we had to turn around and go back.
The place was full of grasshoppers, millions of them.
