Abra Malaga Pass en route to Machu Picchu

Wow, what a great thread. Still active after 4 1/2 years.

This is the Abra Malaga pass between Urubamba and Santa Maria, Peru. Yes, there is only one road visible in the picture.

Full ride report here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700838

Ride Safe,

Wow!

This thread inspires me and saddens me at the same time. On the first count, I want to go to these places and smell the air there and experience it myself, then again, this J-O-B I have makes it unlikely that I'll get to 1/10th of them.

Never the less, Awesome, and yes I know I'm late to the party.

As far as Europe, I always say, just buy one less 6 pack/bottle of wine a week for a couple of years and just go!

Christ the Redeemer Pass between Argentina & Chile. There's a tunnel, but what fun is that?

Any info on the fort or it's location? Would love to find it when I do a trip to Europe.

Gray Creek Pass - British Columbia

My Photos suck, but it is a lovely ride up over the pass from Kimberly to Gray Creek. Near the Summit there is a free camping area next to a shallow alpine lake. So shallow that it warms up quite nicely for swimming by early July.

Maybe some years for that swimming. This year the pass wasn't even open until well into July. Snow at Oliver Lake (the shallow alpine lake, just down from the summit on the west side) on June 30. I'd say early August as a better bet for a dip.

ps: those photos do not suck.

another mountain road...

I don't think there is a name for the pass when it crests the mountain range, but the road is famous...

Nacimiento Road is a pass, I suppose. It goes up and over the coastal mountains, inland from PCH South of Big Sur. View from Nacimiento looking south down on Hwy 1.
