I use my skinner knife that Smithy made me for shaving, so I can't help you.

I've actually been kicking around the idea of making some small blades; razors, kiridashi's, etc. Need to ease back into the hammer swing before I work up anything bigger.

I hate threads like this.
I have a beard. Yet I'm now googling Tabac soap pucks, a brush and a bowl.

A few years back I was dismayed at the lack of longevity of the various blade razors on the market and how 2 blades went to 3, then 4, then 5...etc all the while cost skyrocketed for something that lasted two to three shaves. So I told my barber that I was going to buy a straight razor and he laughed. He said he would loan me one, which he did. He explained that face prep is the key and that he could shave my face with a dull butter knife if it was properly prepped.
So I tried the straight razor and while I did not slit my throat, it was next to impossible for me to get a good shave. Faces just have too many curves and getting that perfect angle was a bitch. So I gave him back his straight edge and he told me to get a Merkur. A proper safety razor. It cost around $80 bucks. A pack of 10 blades is around $5-7 bucks and I can shave for two to three weeks with one blade. I've tried various other brands of blades and while they work well I keep coming back to the Merkur blades. You might want to try that route. ![]() ![]() DW

There is a reason that they invented razors with replaceable cartridges. They shave even closer than the average straight razor with zero chance of cutting a major artery.

Actually, if I did use this stuff I'd just use the soap puck and brush but a modern safety razor.

Merkur
I'm also a big fan of the Merkur handle and blades. A bit of an outlay, but really inexpensive, compared to the "disposable" blades, after a short while.
