Whats the trick with the clutch adjustment. Its all working, but feels like just a little to much play. I tried to wind the adjustment all the way in on the level and tried to get one more spline on the clutch housing, but could not do it. Had to wind out the adjuster on the lever. I notced there is another adjustment on the cable, whats the deal with that?

I put the lever adjustment half way push the rubber back on the cable adjuster loosen the locknut and adjust the cable.

Procycle 790 kit

OK, so having just built a new shed, having no project to get on with, and having a little bit of money in the toy account, am thinking of pulling the pin on a 790 kit. Anyone here already done one??, would like to hear some thoughts on reliability, against fun factor. The bike only has 16000 k on it, so no reason other than to do it........ which is reason enough

Thoughts anyone???

Procycle 790 kit

I too are almost ready to buy the kit. I have a second hand head just waiting on a barrel to swap as I wanted to keep the bikes original bits for resale/update. Keep me posted on how it goes if you install before me.

Everyone I know with lots of DR time reccomend the kit if you can afford it. I think it's a goer....790cc power to weight ratio on a 165kg bike!

Cheers

I'm sure some of you will recognise these pictures instantly...

After warming up the bike, I dropped the oil for the first time and immediately after removing the sump plug, I hear PLONK and find this;

I had assumed this was part of a gears..... however it doesn't look like its from a gears or clutch plate. No other debris fell.

I've done less than 500 km's since owning it, don't have the mechanical history. It has less than 9500 km's on it, a '97 model. My last ride was the snowy ride beginning of November but didn't feel or hear anything untoward, didn't feel any different to DRF's DR.

Sunday I'll take off the clutch cover to have a good look, sift through the oil hopefully find finer residue instead of going back up a barrel.... nothing has exploded yet.... I guess it's probably best to just replace what broke, do a few oil changes with some old diesel then ride it.... Any opinions otherwise?

Bugger! Looks like one of the dogs from one of the gears.

On closer inspection, I think you might be correct rowie.

Sorry chocco, that's worse news.

It's either from the 3rd drive or 4th driven. You might have caught it just in time.

Edit: Just looked at the old gears out of my 90 model and I'm 99% certain the piece is off of 3rd drive. All of the gears (except 3rd driven) are the same from 90 to now.

Thanks guys, Rowie you don't think it could have come from the clutch sleeve hub?

Just finished having a look at your thread from your signature, nice job on the DR. You also told me that this is probably going to be a big job..... soon find out.

EDIT: Just found a great picture displaying my part.....

That is definitely a dog of one of the gears.
You got seriously lucky.

Split that motor before you run it again.

Oh happy new year

Happy new year yourself,

Lucky definitely, I don't have a magnetic sump plug and that last ride doing the snowy ride, coming back from Cooma at about 9pm..... stopping would not have been nice.

I've had third gear go before and take out the entire engine.
It was not amusing

damn. despite the low kms it's a pretty old bike. if you aren't looking foward to a rebuild you could always part it out (minus the gearbox as a working unit of course). all the parts will fit every DR from 1996 to current... a mate of mine had his KLR650 seize and he got around $3000 parting it out, would have only got that for the bike in running order!
