DeSoto Falls dam in northern Alabama. It was the first hydro-electric plant in N. AL

One of the last pictures of the Ulysses before it's untimely death. Thisis the York Haven Dam in PA. While not all that tall, it is over 8,000 feet long! The north end connects to Three Mile Island, and its lake help to maintain a ready water source for the nuclear power plant. Link to Google Maps aerial view.

This is the Bennett Dam in Northern BC, near the Alaska Highway (Hudson's Hope, Fort St John).

Went out to the third largest hydro electric dam in the world outside Cuidad Bolivar at Guri Lake.

4000+ Cubic feet of water coming out of six spillway gates open on a few feet each. Anything over 10000 more cubic feet wipes out the damn farther down river.

You know your in a different place here

Getting a little something before the free tour starts.

Nice 1:50 scale model:

Rain-like up here at the first vantage point:

Built in two big pour stages finishing in the 1980s

Even has famous stainless steel art work installed, this gaint counter rotating wind vane:

I love those ramp spillways, they protect the bottom of the river and designed to reduce vibrations in the power house:

One of the turbine halls, each of the two halls houses 10 turbines each. The clearnace on the stator and rotor assembly is tight, I want to say I remember 8mm IIRC, that could be wrong but anyway it is freaking tight.

Using two 700 ton traveling hoists to install, heavy duty!
