Here's a route I've mapped out in Google maps, looks do-able! Camping spot is where we stopped last time I was up this way, its close to Cervantes for supplies. Not sure if we'll get too much further than this, there's a lot of sand to cover!

The time i rode to cervantes with a mate, we left from the end of marmion ave, which is closer than this proposed route. It took us over ten hours to get there cause once your up that way it all gets rather confusing for me! Not to say that you won't make it! And i think ill head along for a few hours before heading back down wannaroo rd!

Looks great!
Nice route Wilmo, looking forward to it.
Reckon we'll be pretty buggered by the time we hit Cervantes! Camping in the dunes is fine with me too. Cheers Richard

You'll need a bit more than the standard tank on the EXC (9L). In the sand the fuel range might be down to 60-70km or so I'm guessing. I'm strapping a 5 L jerry on the back of the Giant Loop. The only leg where it might be a problem is the first one to Guilderton. I've done this before, except instead of going into Wibinga we cruised up the hwy to Lano. My mate on the EXC ran out about 10kn from Lancelin and we fuelled up from my DRZ that time to get him in.
We'll refuel in Guilderton, Lancelin and Cervantes. If we stick to the beach, it'll be a pretty quick trip north between Guilderton and Lancelin. If we have to go into the dunes in a lot of places, then its going to take a while!!! All depends on the beach or lack thereof. Being summer, there's usually a good stretch of sand to the water. I'm trying to work out how to get that Google Maps placemarked route into a GPX file so I can put it on my Garmin. The program I have, GPS Trackmaker (free download) can convert from .kml to .gpx, but the placemarks I created don't seem to come across as way points. Am I missing something? Any ideas anyone?

don't expect the beach to be too hard in places! We took inland tracks when we did it due to it being a fairly hot day and also the beach was cooking the DRZ to the point of boiling within 5km's. But that stretch of beach changes daily and i'm keen to see it again! Ill be bringing my 450EXC along and probably the 25litre tank, and then at moore river/guilderton i'll hit the tarmac back!

Ok have sorted out the maps! *REFRESHED THE LINK SINCE YESTERDAY*
I've allowed for a few escape routes if we find we're 'over' the sand riding, or the beach is really soft (meaning it'll be a much longer ride and fuel use could be a problem), or its really hot and no seabreeze, or we're hungry etc etc! http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...c95af7d381e01f The .gpx, .wpt, .gdb, and .kml files that contain the waypoints for this ride can be found HERE

Early ride AUS day.
Last minute I know, but I'm gonna hit the dirt tomorrow AM. Nothing big, just a cruise around the hills for a few hours. And I mean cruise. The knee has copped some abuse over the last week so I'm takin' it easy waiting for my Asterisk braces.
0630 start for anyone that's keen Take in a counter meal and a brew somewhere then cruise home after lunch. |

Knee Braces
Did you look at the Aus made PODS, better brace carbon fibre and so much easier than AST to put on, only $800 dollars a pair. All the reviews say they are the best .

I just finished the headset bearings, new back tyre, 15 tooth front sprocket, new output shaft seal and o-ring, and a couple of other things that I've been meaning to do for ages! I may as well pack the panniers while I'm out in the garage drinking beers and dreaming up world-adventures!! Cheers, Dan

Nice one Danno
My 640 is in for a tune-up at the moment - getting the carb and jetting sorted out so hopefully my fuel range will improve.
Put new front tyre on, new air filter and all I need to do now is pack. The forecast does look very good, can't wait. Cheers
