Fantastic trip guys, thanks.
Soaked the bike in WD40 when I got home though... Only problem was a bit of surface rust on the chain. Cheers, Richard.

Danno's bike had a DNF on the way home, his mate picked him up around 3.30pm with the ute.
My chain was rusty too.... I pressure washed all the salt and crap off the bike as soon as I got home and went to work with the WD40 and Bel-ray Chain lube....

Sounds like you guys had a blast.
What's the story with Dannos DNF, Then again it is orange. Didn't someone mention a green bike for towing? How was the wind in the sand, and did the tents stand up to the the onslaught? Perth was honkin at 30 knots plus for most of the day. At least it was a tail wind. Had family commitments in the morning but still managed an adrenalin fix in the windy arvo. Yeeehaaa! Wilmo, you should join us for a sesh' some time. "Booohyaaaaaaaah!"

I should add, it was a great ride guys, many thanks for coming along, really enjoyed the ride and company even if we had to camp at the caravan park!
Phil, I reckon your abilities are better than you think, you didn't seem to have too much trouble cresting those beach exit/entry dunes on the way home! Andrew

come on Danno
Hey Dan . How's the bike? What was it in the end?
Anyone feel like a day trip out on real sand to teach me how to ride? The only sand I seem to find i has been carved up by 4wd's and I feel like a slot car and fall over. ![]() I don't fancy getting too remote by myself learning to ride in sand. Cheers Jay

(thank God, considering some of the far-off places I end up!!)![]() I suspect electrical. Starts, idles, won't power up -- misses, revs a bit, misses lots more, then eventually cuts out if you load it up or rev it harder. I'll pull the carby, check the valves (due anyway), replace the plug lead, already tried a new plug, and then try another CDI also. There's a start!! Bloody fantastic weekend though guys!! Thanks a lot And thanks a million to Andrew who helped me stuff-arse around with the 640 in the dunes for an hour and a half -- tank, seat, carby, air filter -- we had everything off!! And then we did it all over again an hour later on the side of the road a hundred K's north of Perth ![]() Andrew feel free to pull a few photos from here if you wanna do the ride report, or similarly post a link to your photos and I'll happily whack something together..... http://danielj7768.smugmug.com/Motor...78400822_L2Szu Cheers

You did just as well as any one of us. Just cause you had a couple of spills and 'got tired' doesn't mean you can't ride sand. Hey i was looking at a couple of Andrew's photo's just now, namely this one, and I reckon you got some good shots of us coming down there?!? ![]() Email all your photos in full size to danielj7768@gmail.com and I will put them up in the ride report!! Cheers, Dan

Thanks for the Sand
Thanks very much for the company on the first part of your ride up to the Lancelin Road. I felt very welcome even though my luxo barge isn't orange. Really enjoyed the new tracks and the challenge of deep sand. Particulary challenging on a heavy bike where it was chopped up by 4x4s. Suprised how well my bike went but it required different technique to my 'normal' gravel riding weekends. Noticed on Sunday my gravel riding had improved from the brief bit on the sand - thanks.
Now that I've worked this forum out (sort of anyway) I'll keep an eye out for your rides as I'd like to join you again for a sand ride or any others. Cheers Dean |

Hi Dean,
Good to meet you on the weekend. (I'm the one you were talking to about Andy VK et al....) Keep an eye on this thread for rides. That sand we rode is some of the toughest encountered anywhere with all the ruts....if you can ride that, you can ride anything. Certainly helps your skills on the bike as you found out. Cheers Andrew
