man.... I worked in open carports for years... did some of my nicest work there.....genuinely... Funny part about the tools... is that my teenage box got stolen ... and when I got married my wife gave me $20 bucks as a birthday present to get my start on a set of tools.... I bought the BEST Taiwanese junk I could find... Sockets... hammer, even got a cresent and some screw drivers... oh and pliars....

The Socket set ( what's not broken ).... has a place in my shop still.... it's not used any more... but I have a sentimental sickness for it..... we did great work together back when it was ALL I could afford....

Man...some of your garages are larger than my house

My bike is cramped in my newly build 5 meter x 3 meter garage, I'll add pics when i'm home.

Oh yeah....now for the story.... Notice all the different kinds of beer??? I'm not one for the bottle.... ( as a good friend of mine would say ).... but...

When we go to Bonneville all my pals are away from their wife's... so they belly up the cashier with their favorite case of whatever and say... "This is what I'll drink in the next two days".... and then they get on an airplane and fly home... Leaving me with the 22 cans of "whatever" they didn't drink..... so I supply my shop with Beer in this manner.......

You want to come drink my Pale Ale... or that Dark stuff..... Feel Free... but be a fore warned the born on date might proceed you....

This could be an entire separate thread... but I think every garage needs a "first aid kit".

One that is well stocked for whatever trouble you might want to get into.

Some of these pix have been posted elsewhere

but basically, mine started like this on 03/31/10:

Due to the roll of the land, I conracted out the footer, foundation, and slab. I started playing with the wood and drove my first nail on 04/24/10:

05/08/10, I had it here:

05/09/10 Bike tie downs, big C-clamps, and a strong daughter:

05/31/10:

06/13/10:

07/02/10:

07/04/10:

07/14/10 (back feeding the panel froman extension cord):

07/25/10 Man-door steps to appease the County:

Note the temp. Lots of water consumed:

08/01/10 Bench almost complete:

Outside primed:

08/02/10 First coat (Barn Red) applied:

08/22/10 Door trim applied

08/26/10 Dominion Runs the underground and plugs in my meter:

09/05/10 County has come and gone for the final inspection, and I begin the inside loft stairsL

09/14/10:

09/15/10 Floor finally cleaned up:

09/20/10 Time to clean up the debris field:

10/26/10 Getting ready to run the overhead air lines:

11/10/10 Outside Security Lights installed:

10/05/10 Compressor moved into place and hooked up:

Spent the next few days running down air leaks. Have got it down to where I am losing less than 10 lbs. in a 3 hour period. I know where one of the leaks is, but I can live with it until I get the heat working, or whenever I feel motivated to rip out and redo a bunch of pipe.

12/11/10 Heater lifted into place and mounted:

As of 12/14/10 getting ready to pop a hole in the wall for the vent:

And that's where it stands today. Hope to get the vent installed tonight, LP gas line run tomorrow, and call for the tank on Friday. The weather has been brutal, and working out there without any decent heat source has been chilling, to say the least.

That just works.... nice place to hole up... keep out of the wife's hair....I will never forget my first winter with the shop... I spent a gazillion hours doing virtually nothing out there but trying to stay warm.... Yours looks much farther along then mine that first winter.....

the Air virtually has to be Tight to keep me happy though... we've spent a ton of time chasing down leaks....

What are you going to do with the upstairs?
