Ryan-my FMF is also dirt bike loud as well. One thing you might do, if you haven't already, is repack it. There are two types of packing-performance and regular. The performance is stringy and the regular is the sheet stuff. FMF recommends the performance and it is a pain to work with-like yarn. I just redid mine a few days ago and it is recommended every 30 hours or so (yeah, lame).

Also, do you have the quiet tip or the performance tip? It comes out with a small allen wrench. The quiet is surrounded by a metal sheath.

It should be about 93db - which isn't quiet...but is bearable. One other thing is to pick up a regular stock exhaust from a OEM sportbike and mod that on..not bolt on but manageable.

I am close to selling my FMF and getting a GSXR pipe but the mid pipe required isn't cheap and it's almost cheaper to use the existing FMF mid pipe and then sacrifice the can.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

Chris

I'd switch from a Powercore 4 to a Q4. I've had FMF Q4's on a few big XR's and they're decently quiet. They advertise the Powerbomb to lower the sound pressure by about 2db, don't know if that's true....but I also ran the Powerbomb essentially for that reason.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it's loud, but if I wear earplugs (like I do on my sportbike) then it's totally fine. I guess I just don't want to wear earplugs when I ride this bike. On the trail, it's fine without earplugs and it's good to hear the engine on the very slow stuff so I know what's going on. I could probably repack it and I've done that before on another bike, so I have the riveting gun and everything, but I think I'd rather just go with a stock system. I may end up just buying the quite module insert if I can't find a stock system, which I hear does a good job at reducing the sound.

Totally fine with ear plugs!?!?!?!? Perhaps for you, but what about everyone else around?

Even with a stock KLR I wear earplugs on any highway riding due to wind noise.

I think we have a stock KLR muffler in the attic. It will fit '07. No idea if it fits the older bike, or the aftermarket header. Drop me a PM if interested.

Of 130 bikes at the AMA dual sport in Walden, only 3 failed the sound test. One of them was a KLR. That wasn't you by chance, was it?

Next year they are going to lower the boom with sound testing and disallow bikes that exceed the limits. IMO, they should have done that this year.

woah, easy guy. I bought the bike a couple weeks ago. I didn't fail your event test. It's not harley straight pipes loud, just louder than stock and I'd rather ride in the woods with a fairly silent bike than the typical brraap brrap dirtbike. I am interested in your stock pipe though! I'll send a PM.

Anyone have a motorcycle jack they want to sell? I can buy one off of clist, but getting one of an inmate is even better.

650b Hardtail

$900Anyone looking for a sweet XC rig? I took this bike on a trade a month ago, and the 650b is way cool. But I already have a Fully XC bike and want to get a Downhill rig, so I'm trying to sell this. It's a size large KHS 606 650b. Read more about 650b and why it's the cutting edge in MTB here http://sixfiftybikes.wordpress.com/c...gorized/bikes/

Used Hitachi Koki EC12 4 gallon air compressor - $120, I've changed the oil fairly recently and added two ports to plug into. One of the gauges is missing it's glass.

HELP!

I opened up my throttle housing to fiddle with the cables, and lost the lower clamshell.

The wife cleaned the garage while I was in LA for a week, bless her heart, so I might have had some help, but I left it laying around for too long.

Anybody have an extra / old KLR throttle housing laying around??
