Well, I didn't get any pics. Except of what SgtMarty took of me in a ditch. I didn't get to ride Friday's pre-ride. I didn't get to try Cookie's tasty breakfast. I got to ride from GJ to Moab, but I didn't get to go down Rose Garden Hill. I did get up Onion Creek, but turned around when Uli, SubCanis and Yellow Pig went to watch you guys come down rosegarden. I didn't get to camp. I didn't get to enjoy Cookie's scrumptuous dinner. I didn't get to drink beers with you guys.

My story can best be summed up with a parable. A guy comes home and says to his wife- get me a beer QUICK - before it starts. She obliges, thinking, I'll figure out what's up after I get him a beer. He says nothing till the beer is done. Then, he tells her- Quick! Get me another beer before it starts. She's a little annoyed but gets the beer and asks what he's referring to. Him- not a word till he says- Quick, one more beer before it starts.

Now, she's had it. She lays into him. You lazy no good sonovabitch, I work my ass off all day and all you can do is order me to get you beer. You don't do shit around here all week and blah blah, blah blah.

Guy sits back and says: Awe Shit! It's started.

It started for me on Thursday.

Sgt Marty- glad I was able to lead you through the Koko-p. Trail. You sir, are amazing on a KLR with only one peg. Yellow Pig- now you know what it's like to haul a 500+ pound bike through the desert. Those 950s are a flippin hoot. Get those Acerbis thingys off your tank vents or you'll experience Mount Gasuvious every time Wish I could have spent more time with you all. I appreciate the effort. It was a wonderful trip- hope you guys will come back soon. Post more pics! Jim

Hell, I was down sizing!

The 950 feels almost like my XR compared to the Yellow Pig. It's about 100lbs lighter. but feels more like 200 lbs lighter.

By the way Acupunctur4U and I had alittle adventure on the way home. We didn't get into Denver till 1am and a bit of side tracking.

Stand by, more to follow.

So Dan, did you get to ride 92 near Black Canyon of the Gunnison??? How's it looking this time of year? I'm planning to ride it (for the first time) on my way home from Ned's GJ clinic next month....unless I can find a high-speed dirt route (open in April) to take me back towards Denver.

Looks like an amazing ride everyone. And as I wrote last year, many of us really appreciate your posting pics of places like the Rose Garden....because I for one know I'll never see places like that firsthand

92 is great! A bit of gravel on the road, but not bad.

wow ... I missed a really good time. I would have made it work but I was just out in moab last weekend. The really stupid part is I live down the "street" from Tramontana and didn't know the ride was happening till I saw him loading up.

Glad to hear that everyone seemed to have a good time and that there were no accidents.

It is as I suspected; the clutch center assy threaded boss fractured and let go, allowing the bolt to push against the housing from the spring force. Wore a groove in the housing. The magnesium chaff is quite small though, I may get lucky here and not much might have washed into the sump...

Note where the clutch plate buffed the clutch cover from not holding tight on that fourth boss.

You can see the chaff here. Oil caused it to clump and accumulate in the cover.

Assuming no additional damage, and that three oil changes will flush out the evil magnesium chaff, I should be out $127.28 to Service Honda including three oil filters, and a new judder spring & seat (Honda's answer to the cush hub)... not so bad...
Advice freely accepted: am I in for splitting the cases here?

Rose Garden Hill, in the deepening dark, after I descended with most of a clutch. Could that be our intrepid, one-legged water buffalo-riding SgtMarty, headlight blazing?

But anyway, I was really glad to see ya out there for most of the day - well, I didn't REALLY see you that much cause you be riding with the fast kids and not us old slow pokes.

Oh, and you missed my nightly sleep-time concert (it was a nice little tune called Ode to the Bison). All who camped in my zip code enjoyed it - well, at least I think they did, well, nobody shot me in my sleep like you threatened to do.

This is shaping up to be a great report! I've got some pics to share a bit later but I'll start and end with a shot and some advice to those reading this post.

So will opening your XRR radiator cap when you think it just CAN'T be that hot and after all you have a pinhole leak and .... AIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Don't ask me how I know...

OBTW, Cloud9: the section of Koko after Dewey Bridge that got soooo incredibly beautiful, tighter and tighter, doubletrack turning to singletrack, crossing the creek, where Acupuncture4U and clan turned around saying it got more difficult than fun? That is definitely the Kokopelli Trail.

We went around it on Entrada Bluffs Road.

Next time, I wanna start at Dewey Bridge and take that section and beyond. I have a feeling we missed the very best parts of the trail, and what we rode was already most excellent!

I feel a repeat coming on...
