KLR tech day April 20th, 2014

In Gresham pm for address,

we'll have fine BBQ, lots of tools, space, an actual foreman who brings shims for valve adjustments, Doo tools ... and oh ja: new milk crates ! They are....lemme check.......they are b l u e .

Also a vendor was kind enough to provide a door prize, that will be a first!
(venture over to the KLR.net forum to see)

Conveniently April 20th is right after the Alley Sweeper, so come out and fix the damage

So far we have a nice IN-list as posted here:

http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...=959416&page=4

(Best turn a thread about maintenance into an properly named Tech Day thread. )

Can I come hang out even if I bring my Swedish named, Italian made, German owned-now Austrian owned Husky? If necessary I may just bring my little Ninjette to fit in with the Kawi crowd.

Yeah, probably makes sense for this to have it's own thread. Hell, I'll even add it to the Calendar of Events.

Ran into a KLR600 rider down at Bob Marleys that lives over in Newport. He seemed interested in the tech day, but he's a "lurker"so who knows if he'll make it (Challenge on! ).

Cool. It made sense to give it it's own thread, indeed.

Simple....
Step 1: Get there early (or drop off the day before) and let bike cool down.
Step 2: Shoot the shit/eat a donut/hide a couple of stator cover screws from noobs/drink a beer/coffee/play with the dogs/turn Rippers MC plate upside down when he isn't looking.
Step 3: Check valves on cold bike

Hey Scott, does that mean when we did it on my bike out at your place last fall, we should've waited for it to cool down more? Chances are those measurements we took are a little off, huh?

Say what? Don't think I've had anybody to my place in SW Portland for a Valve check. If it was at a tech day at somebody else's place I might have pitched in. Not sure how hot it too hot on the Valve Checks, good question for some of the "experts" at the Tech Day...me, I'm purely amature.

valve checks "should" be done on a cold, room temp motor. although i'm not familiar with the KiLleR's specs and how narrow / broad they are

For anyone doing the doohickey I have a couple gaskets that I never used when I owned a KL600. Kawasaki part #11060-1854 and part #11060-1693. $20/pair or a 24/case of Corona.
