Also to consider is where you try to ride.

These pics were taken on the same February day ride.

I'm curious, how many months of the year do you ride?

Thanks.

rain gear. double pain goggles. dual sport helmet. heated grips. heated clothing. waterproof boots.

it rains and stays in the 40's F through most of winter.

yes we have good riding but it takes 30 minutes to get dressed.

We do get a lot of rain west of the Cascades, but most years you can get in some dry rides in any month- even in the Willamette Valley.

I ride a 2012 KTM 500exc and a 2008 BMW R1200gs. Interested in relocating from Chicago this fall and trying to research other parts for the country.

Thanks.

You ever been to Texas or Alabama? Some days are so hot there is no way I would get on a bike.

I agree with you about the heat, but that's a matter of personal perspective. I'm sure there's lots of folks that say the same thing about the cold or rain.
That chart is just an Aerostitch advertisement anyways. It doesn't mean shit. I commuted for years on my bike in Portland. I'd say the true amount that I wouldn't ride was more like 15-20 days a year. Either it was black ice, snow, or it was pissing rain so hard the streets looked like rivers.
15-20 days ain't bad!

That chart is based on just temperature numbers*. It doesn't take into account humidity, traffic, culture, bad-assness of the rider etc. I still thought it was an interesting way to compare "Riding Weather" across the country. Like most statistics you can morph the data to meet whatever your need.
"When the average maximum high temperature and the average minimum low temperature is between 95F and 25F. In most locations it is possible to ride even more days than are indicated using this formula."

To answer the original poster comment, I commute most days on the Motorcycle in Portland, but don't when the weather is below freezing in the morning, steady rain or worse in the morning or foretasted to be above mid 90s in the summer. I"m guessing there's about a good solid month worth of work days over the year where I drive to work. And those days suck.

Hey all - I'm new to the Adv forum and just recently bought my first GS. Been in PDX for about 3 years.

I'm planning on riding up to Seattle on Tuesday to pick up some gear, and window shop at Touratech etc., if anyone needs an excuse to log some miles. Will either camp somewhere out near SEA and then head back the next day, or just do it all in one day.

Anybody interested in meeting up for cold drink after work today? Thinking 5:30 at the Goose Hollow Inn in SW Portland (Downtownish).
