of course i'm rooting for them, but the long days of july and august are usually rough.
I've been a sox fan of 27 years and know the sad reality of how they often "Blow it" in August followed by a nail biting September to watch 'em squeeze into the playoffs with a Wild Card.

This is the time of year we can walk around with big smiles on our faces, hey the weather is getting better, the days are longer and the sox are in first place August rolls around and we're taking the weather for granted and back to being the miserable massholes we truly are and it doesn't help the Sox are 3 games back to the Yankees (suck) and the bullpen is about as deep as the shallow end of a kiddie pool.

So let's celebrate the good while it's here. My profile says New Orleans, but I'll always be from Massachusetts and most definetly a Red Sox fan.

Papelbon had the very young Chris Walken thing going on tonight- he looked like he was going to start throwing bleacher seats and equipment via telekenesis, judging by the evident rage on his face.

Quite the competitor. He fully accepted the consequences of his performance tonight.

on another note, the Yankmees lost another starting pitcher tonight, one in the throes of a no-no, no less. I hope his leg heals well, sometime in November.

I'm celebrating now and will continue to celebrate each and every Sox win. We have a good mixture of young talent and seasoned veterans. The pitching staff looks great throughout. Bats are seldom a problem. We've made more errors than I'd like to see but have been fortunate enough to commit them in situations that haven't been terribly costly.

As I type this we're playing at a .640 clip with the third best record in all of baseball after last night. There's not a month on the calander I won't be happy about that.

GO SOX!

Game on v. Oakland tonight again!

Bottom of the 3d, Sox leading 1-0 thanks to Lugo's base-stealing!

Top of the 9th in the Twin Cities, Twins lead 2-1, Manny facing Nathan with 1 runner on and 2 outs.

Manny has never gotten a hit off of Nathan...

Tavares deserved a win, big time.

There's no good reason why Tavarez shouldn't pitch like that more often. He's got excellent stuff (nasty sinker, tight slider, Bugs Bunny change), and good command, for the most part. He's shown flashes of brilliance, but hasn't been able to put it together on a consistent basis.

One thing I've noticed is that Tavarez and Varitek don't seem to be on the same page at all. Every time J.T. pitches, Tek wears out the grass between home and the mound going out for conferences, and these exchanges don't seem to be particularly friendly most of the time. At one point in last night's game, Tavarez shook off Varitek four times in one sequence, prompting Tek to spread his arms and shrug, as if to say, "What the fuck, Dude? You got a pitch I don't know about?"

Tavarez has a reputation for being something of a hot-head, and his stubborness definitely hurts him at times. If he could learn to keep his pride in check, relax, and trust the best game-calling catcher in baseball, he'd win a lot of games.
