edit - to answer what instrument I played in band.

I played the saxaphone from 4th to 7th grade. I stopped because the band teacher demanded that I split time between football games and band. I was unwilling. I was asked not to kindly to not play sax anymore by a bitter asshole of a teacher. I knew football was the shit. I played sax at home minus intruction from a bitter asshole.
