Talking Pub Tour

Back from a week on the KLR, cruising around Tas with Des on his 1986 GPZ900, I think he got it thrown in with his film camera (still in use) in 1989 when it had 6000kms on it. Anyways it got him to the Pub in the Paddock, down the East coast via various bakeries & pancake parlours, to Lonny, Cradle Mtn, link road to Waratah Pub, Queenstown & Lake St Clair. All bitumen roads (rats..) cause the GPZ don't like dirt. Oh, except when Andreas saved the KLR from being clean by following me on the dirt road which bypasses Tarraleah, a welcome diversion after 1500 odd kms of tar. Thanks mate. The Big A extended the Interlaken weekend (where do all those RDOs come from??) & met us at Lake St Clair, threw up his tent (well one of them..) & braved the sub zero temps & overnight snow. The GS had to be dug out from under it, but still faithfully fired up.

Pub Tour

Can recommend the Pub in the Paddock, tho it was a quiet Wednesday night with only Des & I knocking back a beer or two in the bar, Priscilla the only local to share a drink with..

Question

Yes, off on the Overland Trek on Saturday..

Camping at Cradle campground that night, setting off on Sunday at a slow but personally steady pace on my pat malone, til I eventually arrive at Waterfall Valley, camp there (or Lake Will depnding on mood etc), then walking to Windermere on Monday to meet up with Andrew and co.

Just packing the winter woollies, expecting snow and sub zero temps..why do I do this when i have a perfectly good dvd player at home? Go figure. .

Do they allow KLRs on the Overland track?

Plenty of grand vistas, nice camp spots and gravel roads to explore. The odd coffee shop too.

Plan roughly: catch Fri nite ferry, camp at Barnes Bay, wait for anyone who wants to join & comes across Sat morning, have a look at the map, decide what next, do it ...

I'll probably be on Suse's GS500, so wherever I go any standard or touring oriented road bike should also be able to go.

If hardier types turn up, then I'm sure they'll be able to find some suitable playground too.

Middy's been saying something about a shack and fishing once or twice in the past ... ? ...

Here's a map sketch ...

Hello... I've just signed up here, but some of you will know me already. I've been on a few (and I do mean few) Friday nighters. I ride many Vespas, although not at the same time, of course. Not really keen on off-road riding, but I often ride distances too long for an Italian ladies' shopping bike. Next big trip for me is the MotoGP at Phillip Island, by way of Bairnsdale and the Barry Sheene ride. Looking forward to annoying some Harley riders there...
