Hi Guys/Gals,

Looks like some of you had some fun today. What is it with the freaks in/around Adelaide? (I can say that, I lived there for 9 years). I've been lurking this thread for a while know as the missus has moved back down to Adelaide for work and if I ever make it down there with the bike, I'd love to come out for a ride. I'd love to hear/go for ride with anyone heading up to Alice Springs area. I'm 170km NE of Alice on the Plenty Hwy, yeah I've got a big back yard that's great for riding in.

POPS: What pub is that you guys are having a countery in? I thought I'd been to just about every pub around the Adelaide hills (I collect stubby holders and have about 90 from different pubs around SA.

Well, not without some further bear-baiting with Capt Underpants, but that's easily done. I believe some of the locals are keen on a trip to Finke soon, so hopefully we can catch up with a few of you Northerners for a good laugh.

Finke sounds good. I'm still up in the air a bit about entering on my 640ADV, most locals think I'm mad. I was planning on doing a pre-ride over the w-end, but there's been a heap of rain up here and being on my own I wasn't keen on getting stuck in the floods. Hopefully do it in a few weeks time, hopefully overnighting at MT Dare for a beer or two.

I'm guessing you guys would be looking at camping along the track some where over the Finke weekend? If so, it sounds like there may be a contingent of NT ADV'ers (See NT Thread http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503334). Maybe we could sort out a ADV Riders camp. I've got a few mates who camp out each year and a few others who will be racing, so there's plenty of options.

Word of advice to anyone who is planning on coming up for Finke and hasn't done it before, Alice has a bit of trouble keeping up the stocks in the shops over the Finke period, so it's best to bring as much as you can. The Supermarket shelve get very empty over the week. And if you think you'll get much service from the local bike shops good luck unless you're involved in the race and made a booking with them.

On another note;

While I was down in Adelaide over X-Mas I got some bit and pieces for the bike from Gawler Motorcycle. I was very happy with service from John (Owner), he went out of his way to find parts for me and has said that any time I need parts to let him know and he'll put them in the post for me.

To give you an idea, I got a front and rear tyre, chain and sprocket set, spare chain link, and rally hand grips, all for around $450. Last time I brought tyres in Alice Srings they cost me $400 alone.

They on Main North Rd on the South side on they way out to Gawler a bit past the Dalkieth Caravan Park. Great service and I would highly recommend them.

He also charges $20 for oil filters that you can get anywhere else for $9..locals are starting to avoid him. Glad you enjoyed the experience though.

I bought tyres in Alice once - they have very expensive rubber trees up there!!

And make sure you remember to carefully file the forward sight off your imaginary gun before your medication kicks in again - It'll make it easier to insert fully without any lube, you bloody idiot.

And Kym, welcome home mate. I'd like you to lead the next couple of rides, if you don't mind, 'cause you make it look easy.

And I missed this just so I could lug 3 tonnes of dolomite around! Oh well, had to be done.

New house stuff is curtailing activities at the moment. Hopefully things will improve soon.

Glad to see you both made it home safe Kym. Maybe a slide night at the Avoca one night soon?

OK, I need advice on this: It's my wife’s birthday on the 23rd but she said "go".

Does that mean "go and enjoy yourself" or is that secret women’s code for "You go and you're in big trouble mister" ??

What if I buy her a Bliman Hotel stubby holder and take home? Will that help?
I was up there one wedding anniversary and took her home a Blinman Hotel hat. She won't wear it

this sounds great, but I cant make it for sat morn, but would be really keen to meet somewhere on the Sunday and join in for some of the ride back. anybody else from Adelaide going up and coming back Sunday???.
Hope full this will be my first ride without Gun play.

A pub near Adelaide might have been a bit cooler .
