Some pics from the weekend.

On my way back from the wedding in Mansfield Vic, I ventured into Murray Sunset NP. Here's a collection of pics from the journey.

The Road in was nice:

Salt Lake anyone?

Smile!

Plenty of sand:

Which caught me out too often:

With a little rain the sand turned to glue:

The rain turned the clay surface like greased glass:

This is where I twisted my ankle. Stretched shit in directions it wasn't ment to go...

From here on out I opted to take the quickest route out as I couldn't stand on the pegs any longer. So I paddled my way through the sand, falling off several more times along the way. Grabbed a great steak sandwich at Underbool and headed for home.

I wanted to see how far I could get out of reserve before running out.

I made it to the border fruit fly checking station only 4km from Pinarroo with this many km's showing since reserve.

Oh the fun. Now I've gotta make sure I'm all healed up before Mungo.

Catchya's at the Avoca!

Aaron.

Hey Aaron

Sorry to hear about the ankle mate! You need to nurse it for a while now to be ready for Mungo.

Beaut country out there. Really enjoyed the photos. Thanks.

Typical of your bike though, always lying down for a nap! I'm sure a set of knobbies would have been much better in the sticky sand and clay. Starts a whole debate that subject on its own so I won't go there.

Take care and see ya thursday

Mike

My & bwvtom's plans are & anyones welcome to join us:

Thursday: Meet & depart from Mount Pleasant showgrounds near the grand stand at 9am (just in case it's raining) for a squirt along the bitumen to Walkers Flat then dirt via Wanbi Rd; the Bakara Sand Rd/track to Bakara well; Mercunda to Loxton/Renmark.

Lunch: Renmark, collect some "interesting maps" of the area from Bazzz (who is spewing coz his specialist brought his knee reconstruction date forward) then spend the afternoon trying to read the maps exploring tracks in & around Lindsay Island, camping on the Murray overnight.

Friday: Head back through Renmark to collect at least one rider I know of trailering up his bike after work Thursday and maybe one other heading up his own way to Paringa Wednesday from Mount Gambier, then out on the northern side of the Murray to the Old Wentworth Road through some interesting Chowilla National Park tracks along the way

And as a special request for those who need it after all the fuss about finances lately, we will try & find the "Suicide Bridge" for ya pleasure

On to the southern side of Lake Victoria then to Wentworth to fuel up for the expected (by my NRMA map calculations) 430kms odd leg Wentworth/Pooncarie/Top Hutt/Mildura. (there is a shorter option of approx 310kms total, using a more direct route from Pooncarie to Top Hut with some black stuff involved, which more road orientated bikes would use)

Saturday: Heading east out of Pooncarie past Nambuccurra Waterholes; south into Mungo NP; east into Top Hut Station & an 80 odd kms tourist loop in Mungo NP.

(depending on fuel ranges there is an alternative shorter route down the black stuff to Top Hut)

Sunday: South to Mildura to refresh the thirsty bikes (sharing final drops of fuel between the bikes may be a requirement); then into the Hattah- Kulkyne N.P. to camp for the night.

Monday: Head west home via Pheeneys Track through Murray Sunset N.P. (to give 1WD more practice ); dirt to Walkers Flat & final bitumen squirt home for a recouperating ale or two

Mind you, all this could turn to "shite" at a moments notice depending on blessings from the gods .

Should be fun one way or the udda

Cheers
TDMKym

I am still not 100% sure I'll be there but intend to!

I will leave Pirie on Friday and will return Sunday. Still unsure about the route, I'd like to ride east from Terowie but it's 430km to Pooncarie so I'd need to be carrying fuel to get any further.

Has anyone else been out that way?

The problem with that is that there is no fuel at Pooncarrie. So Unless you've got a supertanker you're gonna have problems. So I recommend you head to Wentworth first.

Just been throwing some routes together to make it to Pooncarrie.

Does anyone know what the road between Renmark and Wentworth is like along the river - the route in this link:

According to Google that route is only 490kms. I haven't started seriously looking at maps yet, but I had thought that it was a lot further away than that. Might have to do some rethinking.

That is leaving from Mt Barker though. I'm just doing a few final alterations to that route. Looks like it'll be a shade over 500km. Very manageable.

That is going east from Purnong to Loxton. Along the Mail Route from Renmark to Wentworth and West of the River from Wentworth to Pooncarrie.

Map - Here.

My latest attempt at packing everything on the bike.

It's all coming together!

Even if it's as wide as a truck

I am still going east from Terowie, I had not considered the fuel at Coombah Roadhouse which is just under 300km. From there I should be fine, 125km to Pooncarie.
