That was no Aprilia, that was a Rotax engine. And even then the BMW used a different head than the Aprilia. Nowadays the G650 X is being built by Aprilia, but again with a Rotax engine.

Anyway, more pics Mr Sulu:

Note ---

Fuel Injection (See lambda sensor etc)
Does any other manufacturer currently offer FI on a 450 enduro ?

The foot Pegs are exactly the same as used on the HP2, 1200ADV and G650 X.

Could this be the prototype of the new Buell 450 dirt bike?

Too bad they went with a link-less rear suspension. KTM has never been ever to dial in that setup. I hope BMW can.

If BMW comes to market with this bike the same time as HD/Buell the off road market is going to be awful crowded. Well competition is usually a good thing.

As far as the counter sprocket/frame issue the bike is a protoype, but its also a BMW they've certainly done things just as silly. Is it possible the motor is a 400cc its looks like the top end says 390 something?

looks to me like the countershaft would go clear out into the frame, and that wierd cap on the frame is probably some bearing carrier. to change the sproket you pop the cap/bearing/carrier doohickey, then the shaft would probably slide out, and the sprocket would drop out or back.
