Notice they are under a Husqvarna EZ-Up.

The design looks pretty clunsy to my eyes. Heavy too. The chassis could be a one-off intended to throw off observers. The motor must be pretty finished, though and it appears too complicated. Certainly no Honda CRF.

Rumors are that the BMW 450 will be several pounds lighter then its competition (KTM 450EXC). Elimination of the kick starter would probably net 3-4lbs right there. But nonetheless all industry rumors are sounding good to me!!! Bring it on already.

Hmmm, I don't think the chassis is a one-off. Check this patent request. It shows a very detailed description of the complete build of the bike and the engine.

Well if one looks at the current buying spree under the GS owners it's a clever move to keep their customers in their own shop, instead of shopping at KTM Husqvarna etc...

So true,

when I look around me in GS-land, there are a lot of people buying an extra motorcycle for offroad fun. What would be better if you could buy one from you favorite brand?

(at a BMW dealer near you instead travelling half the country to find a Kutasqberg specialist.)

My GS does not have a frame under it and riding double on parts of the Rubicon I managed to smash the crap out of the stock bashplate and I did no damage to the engine, just took off the skid plate and hammered it out. And with that heavy pig two up, I am sure I hit rocks harder than I am with my 325# TE riding solo.
So It might not be an issue with me, time will tell when the bike comes out.

When BMW comes out with a real dirt bike I will believe it.

By that I mean in the dealer with a for sale sign on it. I want to be able to touch it, sit on it etc...

IMO, the 450 CRF is a high maintnance race bike. Far from the trouble free, easy maintained image that Honda has.

3-4lbs kick starter?????????? What would you guest the battery weighs for that electric starter??????

I'm pretty excited to see BMW put out a 450 dirt bike. But I'll wait for it to be on the show room floor before I form an opinion. I'm sure Ill like it,but wont be buy'n it.

Didn't Maico do this in the 70s? The clutch may not have been mounted directly on the crankshaft, but it definitely was spun at high speed to allow a smaller clutch.
