Okay - I have to take a break. But this story is far from over. I'll be back with more asap unless significant financial contributions begin flowing into my bank account pronto. In which case I might be talked into just going away.

Camooweal seems to have grown a bit since we last saw it in 1968. A great read / ride. thank you

OK, no money, so here's a few more.

At the Cape, they even have somewhere to sit. Which is nice.

Then there's another 300km+ of this on the way to the Stuart Highway, which is the main (only) bitumen link between the south and north of Australia through the inland. This is shot on the road leaving the gulf country for good.

After filling up with 98 octane at the HiWay Inn on the corner of the Stuart Highway and the Carpentaria Highway, I had to visit the Daly Waters pub. This is my favourite, but sadly no stopping this time.

Some guy had parked his chopper on the other side of the road.

But it's what's inside that counts. This place is so friendly people can't help taking off their underwear and sticking it up over the bar. Strange, but true.

I don't know if you can read this closeup, but these are truly some touching words. I dunno, good honest people like this can bring a tear to the eye can't they? It just makes you feel good to be alive. G'day Jane!

It's not far up the highway to this place - Mataranka Hot Springs. I've been here before and was blown away by the palm trees, the crystal clear water and the incredible feel of being in a true oasis. Couldn't wait to head down to the springs for a look and maybe a soak.

I'd forgotten they had the remnants of a Cyclone come through here a while back. With floods and strong winds, there's almost nothing left of the vegetation. I nearly cried.

You should have seen this before the damage. I hope these people don't think this is what the place is really like.
