Im out for this weekend, but next weekend, and just about anywhere up to the 25th I would be up for some mapping / exploring runs. Ive got a pretty good map of stuff Ive ridden south of 40, but thats about as far up as Ive gotten.

How do you think the stock K-50 rear would work with the D-908 rr front from the 9fiddy? The 9fiddy is down with a headgasket coolant leak.
We will be hitting some stuff that I have not ridden on, and some stuff that I have. I do my best to avoid whoops, but we will likely hit some. We will be riding at an easy pace, so as not to get worn out too quickly. The purpose is to map some trails on the GPS that we would like to keep open to licensed vehicles such as dualsports, so Richloam is out. The sand was pretty firm yesterday from all the rain we had, but you know knobs are preferred.

I am looking forward to finally meeting you Mike, see you out there next week.

Is that the Big Scrub Camp ground on 573 and 588 ? I don't remember a Ranger station there.
Or do you mean the station on 19 in Altoona?

573 and 588, correct. I think the little shack there next to the campground is a ranger station.

I was out there riding around late this evening, the sand is nice and firm. There are some nice puddles too. I rounded a corner in some slick as snot clay and hit a small dip at about 20 mph. The rear end slid way out and I thought I was going down. It straightened right up smoothly, I dont know how. I have never been that sideways on a motocycle. And I was taking it easy because I was by myself, I was riding in 2nd when I would normally be in 3rd most of the time.

We should do a summer midnight ride in the forest, that would be interesting.

Howdy Fleas

OMFG...am here since Tuesday and am trying to track down my bags. Yes, all my gear is in them. Other than the fact that some POS may be riding around in my gear, this is bar none, the best ADV terrain in the world. Gravel and sand for hundreds of miles and beer is $1. It looks like I may have to fly down to CapeTown to find a bike to ride, but the FFs on Wild Dogs are helping me out.

I ran into two ADV guys from Germany on XT500s..they had ridden all the way.

B/t/w, is is so dry here that my sinuses are bleeding. No humidity, though

Good to hear from you Native. Its sucks that you lost your bags, but hopefully the airline will come through and deliver them to you. Use plenty of insect repellant, you dont want any of the funky diseases they carry.

No worries. It is actually pretty cold here--like Feb in Orlando. And I am taking malaria pills as well. So far, the gut is tight, which is a good thing. I am still waking up every morning at 2:30am. Whatever time it is there, count forward 5 hours.

Make sure to remind Scribe to check the oil on the Fant before he leaves OHV1, alright?

Flan8tive, glad to see you made it there, but sorry to hear about your problems.

PK, Sinner and I braved the Jungles of Ocala yesterday. It was hot and muggy with minimal breeze. We took all sorts of back trails, threading lightly, cleared about a thousand fallen trees, well at least five or six. A couple of the ones we couldn't move or ride around, I was thankful to PK and Sinner helping me muscle my bike over. I split from PK and Sinner after about 3 hours of riding when my legs started cramping a little although we didn't hit a lot of whoops yesterday.

Anyway Flan8tive, stay safe and try not to broadside a Rhinoceros.

Screw Baja

OK, screw Baja. I say the fleas need to organize a trip to Namibia! I've got just the bike for it, too: A pristine Cagiva something or other, sitting unused in my garage.

Good to hear from you Flan. Hope you get some wheels under you before the trip is over. Maybe you could ride bitch with the Germans for a few clicks just to get the feel for it?

I've heard the malaria medicine can make you sicker than the disease. Don't know which is worse.

I took the Tampa crew along Alexander Springs.Tthey did so good on 538 and 539 I asked if they were ready for something more difficult. Took them down the two track on 540, Will was the only one to fall. They did good for little or no offroad experiance.
We bailed about 11:30, it was just too hot. Looks like time to go boating untill Ribtoberfest.
