Eloy's Big Adventure

So Eloy's in town to attend some kind of cult swearing-in ceremony—here I thought he sold the DR350—and I took him on a little ride to show him around. We left the house at 9:30, got back about 6 p.m. Did 180 miles, prolly 70 percent dirt.

I started him on the Husky and we took off for Red Rock National Conservation Area.

He thought we were in Tijuana and wanted directions to the nearest donkey show. Sadly, that's the one kind of entertainment unavailable in Las Vegas.

Red Rock is famous for the "scenic loop," a one-way, 13 mile drive that's interesting but tame. I knew a secret back way out, and soon we found ourselves winding our way up to Rocky Gap in perfect weather. Having a lousy time, wish you were here.

I put him on the 950 right before the infamous "rock garden," tester of men's souls and crusher of skid plates. Strong, capable riders have been reduced to sobbing pre-pubescent girls in this section. He passed the test and has thus been deemed worthy of entry into the 950 club.

We celebrated his achievement with a stop at the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings, opened circa 1903. The urinals look original.

I met a guy in the saloon who wrote a book about Michael Jackson based on interviews he'd done posthumously. Spooky. This being Vegas, the author was also an Elvis impersonator, though not a very good one.

I call this pic "Still Life With Beer and Weird Fucker's Book at the Pioneer Saloon"

We left the saloon and some chick goaded Eloy into trying this monster hill climb right next to the bar, which is a perfect place for a hill climb when you think about it. "Hold my beer and watch this!"

He made it back down, too. The biker chick's biker man said, "Guy's got bigger balls than me."

Our last stop was Jean dry lake, a flat playground about two miles across. When it's wet it's total slop, but when it's dry it's drag strip with jumps.
Eloy decided he likes the 950.

A lot

Keep an eye out in the Florida Craigslist Finds thread: V-Strom 1000 for sale. I just don't ride it anymore. Make offer.

Epic ride Bob!

Thanks for letting me ride the Husky & the 950.

All I can say about the 950 is... . That fooker is a very capable 400+ lb dirt bike. I would have trashed the Vee if I would have ridden those trails with it. i gotta stop taking 'test' rides on other people's steeds... it can get expensive

I can probably swing this. Let me know the details when you get them sorted out.

Great pics, Bob. I would like to see Eloy loose in ONF on a 950, bet he would be tearing it up.
