That is a problem that I am yet to see...

Any decent hit will break an extended mirror. The MotoScience folds away so you can mitigate that risk.

Great minds think alike...found an old piece of all thread, some washers, a couple of big sockets for backing spacers and voila! 2 or 3 turns and the dogbone spacers popped out. The DRZ is now back at stock height and it feels much more stable and not nearly as cramped.

Thanks for all of the advice!

DRZ Petcock Issue

Thanks for the advice regarding the POS stock petcock. I have a Raptor 660 on order and hope to have my DRZ back in commission this weekend. SR

I don't suppose someone could tell me the diameters of the 2 balls?I'm thinking an aftermarket mirror aftermarket metal pivot joint may be in the future!

Alright. You've convinced me I'm gonna have problems eventually with the stock petcock. Does that Yam part # also fit the OEM tank? Thx--Bubbba

Yes, but it doesn't line up the way it does with the Clarke tank. It's a perfect straight shot from the Clarke tank to the intake, but the stock tank is a couple of inches shorter. You have to make some pretty sharp corners with the fuel line to get it to the intake and then it kind of covers the choke. I haven't had any problems with the line kinking under load yet, but I'm running a piece of heavy automotive fuel line so that it won't kink. I have to hold the choke out when first starting the bike or the fuel line will push it back in. Still better than having the cylinder hydrolock with fuel/oil mixture.

Don't forget to turn it off when you stop!

It looks like the base is a RAM-B-349U... 1" diameter.

New DRZ owner

Just picked up a used DRZ400S this past weekend and am in the process of modding it a bit to suit my needs. I can't say that I have read the entire thread but I have read a lot and have searched it for many ideas and fixes.

I saw this and was wondering if anyone has it or can provide any feedback on the battery kit?

I have had this kit with a genuine Yuasa on my bike for several years now and its still going strong.

Glad to hear that since I just ordered one. Mine has a bad battery and I had no luck sourcing it locally so I figured more power and a more common size would be a good thing since I was ordering anyway.

Also is there a list somewhere of upgraded, larger, gas tanks and what works with no mods....I have found a lot of information and pictures but it is pretty widely scattered and I would like to order one in the next month or so.

I run an IMS 3.2 on my S (there are other sizes available from IMS, also), but Clarke, R&V Aqualine (Safari Tanks), and Acerbis all make tanks for the S.

JustGasTanks.com has a good selection and pictures you can use to compare.

Instead of putting a bigger and even heavier battery in the bike, I'd go with this one. It's much lighter, a little smaller and has had good reviews. Might even be cheaper than buying a bigger battery box and lead acid battery. http://www.amazon.com/BALLISTIC-PERF.../dp/B005KLOYYC

This is my new (for me), drz 400. 2004 year, only 5000 km. Still pending to add some extras. For the moment, drz 400 E plastic tank, GPS,competition exhaust and aluminium handguards.
