I read somewhere that if removing the header bolts, when you go to insert them back, you should use some anti seize on those 2 bolts, is that really needed? and if so, can i just use a bit of grease on them and insert? do not have any anti seize.

The grease will burn off....but you can use Mallox (?), stomach stuff, as a suitable substitute.

![]() A friend gave me a pair of them awhile ago. The other is a post type rack for the front wheel (I guess)... I've normally only use it with the smaller bikes..it's steady but not overly sturdy. |

Hi Westy, The engine with the new trans went back into the bike last weekend... It has had some dyno time over the weekend to dial in safe mixtures and a couple of hundred clicks on the road before going back to the dyno for final tuning and power runs... plus a couple more hours on the road. I am happy with it so far, but it remains to be seen how I get along with it in soft conditions. The rationale behind the Nova for me was getting a sane 5th for highway cruising while still retaining the crawling ability of an acceptably low first and I am kind of surprised at your 15/44 gearing with this transmission and especially with a stock engine... The gearing choices that I have made are 15/47 and 15/49 and the latter is currently fitted. Even with the 15/49 it is still pulling (in a common frame of reference for others) a slightly taller fifth than a stock transmission with 16/44 which is about as tall as I'd ever suggest going with a stock engine... that is about the point where, IMO, the bike starts to become over geared.

The company that makes your stand may even still sell that style of attachment, or as you note, you could make some. I have a spool style stand I use on my Versys. For the DRZ I replaced the rear axle cotter pin with a quick pin. Then I simply pull the pin and slide socket wrench extensions in the axle holes of the DRZ. I have even thrown screw drivers in the holes when I have my extensions in use. The DRZ swing arm is much narrower than my Versys so the extensions stick out pretty far where the contact the spool stand, but the bike is so light its not a big deal. Works great for chain maintance. I post up a pick later. |

Great day for a ride. The sun was shining and the roads were fairly dry.

Can someone give me a measurement on a spark plug wrench please?
Hi guy's, I've not long been the owner of a nice 2003 400S, which came to me with no tool kit. What I need for her is a spark plug socket / wrench, and also some information, like are they special as per my other squeeze the XR400, which needs to be thin enough to get down the tunnel. Therefore I need to know the overall length, and also what size, eg:- 16 mm 18 mm etc. Thanks in advance, Mark. |
