Help needed on radiator guards or braces?
I'm not being idol in searching for an answer as I believe that this hasn't been asked before.
First off I'm in England, and I have to import from the USA if I need either braces or guards, so I also need to get the purchase right first time, as the postage is big bucks, plus if I have to return anything I'm going to be stung for import duty twice! I've been advised to fit guards to the rads, to my 2003 DRZ 400 S (with fan) and looking through suppliers on e bay some are braces other are guards. I need side impact protection from crashing in the dirt, also some frontal / fin protection would be good. So do I need a brace and guard sold separately , or is there a combined unit out there that will do both? Any help is greatly appreciated, either an answer to the above or a manufacturers name and model type would be even better. Thanks in advance guys and a very happy 2013 to you all. |

Spent a couple of days working on my girlfriend's DRZ this last week. She has always wanted black bodywork, so Santa made her wishes come true.
Started with this ... ![]() Made a bit of a mess .... ![]() But it tidied up nicely. ![]() Acerbis replica bodywork, not the best quality, but the right colour. The Acerbis fender was WAY too big, so I swapped it with the UFO Supermoto one that was on my sidecar. ![]() Can't say enough nice things about the Britannia fairing. It isn't cheap, but is worth every penny. This has transformed the look of the DRZ. Can't wait for her to ride it, just as soon as the reworked seat comes back, and the new regulator/rectifier comes in.

She's got a nice ride there, Wannabe. How does she (or you) like those VisionX Solstice lights? How are they wired?

also how do the shrouds mount up to them? I know stock radiators have that threaded clip on the bottom that the shroud bolts thread into.

The stock mounting locations and hardware is reused, but I used longer bolts to make it easier to reach through the guard.

As ptgarcia said. Uses stock locations and hardware. I also used longer bolts on the shrouds, just to make it easier

I really like them, had no issues at all thus far. I also have a pair on my F800, and a 9 light bar on the Volvo that we use for TSD rallying. Very robust, lots of light and a low current draw. Wiring is pretty conventional, they have their own power source off the battery, and I'm running a relay off the low beam circuit and secondary switch. I will probably put a Fuzeblock up in the fairing now (as I have on the 800), to neaten the wiring up a little more. Mounted them on the stock turn signal brackets, with turn signals in the handguards.

Anyway, looks like perfect dry terrain. That roadbook/directions thing on the bars looks interesting as well. Psycho

Thanks to those who kind of swayed me to the DRZ side of the equation!
As I read a billion articles on this topic, I guess the summation is the DR is basically for the road, and the DRZ is basically for off road... Is there a way to stiffen up the back suspension on each, like an off road spring or something? It seems both need suspension work if you are taking it off road, but how much and how expensive is this endeavor? Thanks DRZ folks!
