They'd be cat litter tubs if he stole it off a KLR.

Sooo.... I just finished the ride of my life. I think I broke my ankle after the DR200 tipped over on my leg, but I'm comfortably on my couch writing this post.

I road about 4 miles of difficult power line trails here in Haddam, CT on my DR (see pic...) and it was truly awesome. My friends have always been super jealous of my DR and went out and got YZ's, KZ, and CRF's. Anywho I went riding with my buddies and felt as though perhaps my DR requires some tweaking to work properly in tough riding conditions.

Specs:
- Suzuki 97 DR200
- Kientech Jet Kit with modded exhaust
- Happy trails rear rack
- MSF bars

I definitely need to invest in heavy duty handlebars, a skid plate, and a good set of bark busters.

So, on to my questions....

1) My front fork seems terrible in the dirt/rocks. I mean, really bad. I'm literally fighting with my front end while my buddies plow through. I'm overdue for a fork oil change, but I feel like the front end is way too stiff. Have you guys tried substituting a different weight fork oil? What about softer aftermarket springs?

2) When I dumped my bike, I somehow bent the front end out of shape. Not only the handlebars but the mounts as well seem misaligned with the triple tree/forks and wheel. I can't figure out what would have bent. If it's not the bars, what else could be bent?

3) What kind of bark busters do you guys recommend? Also, what kind of heavy duty handlebars?

4) I've been experimenting adjusting the rear shock with it on the bike. What is the best way to do this? Have you guys found a good way to measure shock travel with the shock on the bike?

Thanks for the help!

Stiff. Really?

Are you running stock bars? They're pretty soft. Like French cheese.

Barring that, I'd guess the fork legs are tweaked in the clamps. These are just guesses without seeing the bike.

I like Cycra ProBends and ProTaper bars. I have plain ol' Seven Eights ProTapers, but if I had to do it again, I'd get a fat bar.

I defer to the wisdom of the masses.

I've been struggling all night trying to install Moose barkbusters to a cheap set of aftermarket handlebars.

I should have ordered a higher quality set of handlebars and paid more attention to the dimensions. I'm giving up to try again tomorrow.

Heretik, there are all sorts of things that can be tweaked. The bars, the bar mounts, the triple clamps, and the axle. It might be a mtter of loosening everything and tweaking it all back into shape. Once you have everything else lined up, you can bend the handlebars straight again with a long pipe over the end of the handlebar.

ps. I've never measured the travel in my rear shock...I've just tightened it up and backed it off a thread or two based on my seat-of-the-pants instinct.

Have one of your friends ride it through the rocks and see what they say.

Do any of you guys have an extra one of those dirt cheap EBC brake rotors? I missed my opportunity on that one. Name your price and I'll buy one off you. They are WAY cheaper than the stock ones.
