Speaking of pumper carbs for the little DR.

I bought my wife a 1994 DR350SE a couple years ago and it came with a pumper on it of unknown origin. We really like how it runs. The only problem we see is that on cold start it is pretty finicky. I went out this morning to start it after it has sat all night.

choke up(if that is what it is), couple twists of the throttle, clutch in, push start button. crank crank crank fire, idles for a second then dies. If I do this about 4 times((with or without chocke) it will then idle fine and runs great.

Am I missing something or doing something grossly wrong on the start procedure?

I have concluded that I have this carb(size may not be exact one but I havent pulled it off bike to measure yet)

32mm MIKUNI TM Flat Slide smoothbore carburetor 13-5042

And final question. Is there an advantage to this carb over the dirt model pumper or vice versa?

Thanks!

I don't think they are the same, the 350 carb is a 33mm.

IMHO: Don't touch the throttle on a pumper carb.

No touch = Couple kicks. One if hot.
Throttle = Many F'n kicks.

The DR250 dirt model came with a TM31 which are extremly difficult to find, if you can find one at all it's going to be big $$$$$$$

The DR350 dirt model came with a TM33.

I picked up a 1995 DR350 a couple of weeks ago and changed the usual- brake fluid, fork oil, engine oil and filter- I opened up the carb and emptied out what at one time in its life was gas- looked more like turpentine. The tip of the needle looks like it has been eaten away. Can I thank the ethonal in the gas for this?

14-43 if memory serves... I run a 15 front if I plan to be on the road for an extended period of time -- 13 if I'm going to play in the woods.
