Lucky dog! Nice new ride for you...and for me, i ended up with the shingles this week...Gosh damn these things suck! lol SUcks to see ya have to put the DR off to the side..surely someone will figure the old girl out and then ride happily into the sunset on a super sweet ass looking bike! To bad ya live at the other side of the F-ing Country! lol
So yah anyhow, as for my little "pre-spring build" its on time out. I cant even put a shirt on cuz my body feels like its on FIRE as soon as anything comes in contact with it. Not sure HOW THE HELL i got shingles, but i did..so once i get back around to doing stuff, ill let everyone know! lol

I bought this in '09 because it had the Cummins Turbo Diesel in it and was one of the last remaining diesels I could find without the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in the exhaust. Our units at work had those (6.4L powerjokes) and were always blowing up, having to be sent to the garage and getting 10-11 mpg, and at that time we had more than 200 units all with the same problems. So I knew I needed a diesel in good shape, 50k miles or less, 4x4 and a quad cab, long bed preferable. I didn't want a dually but I found this '05 in great shape for only $21k (awesome considering it sold 4 years before for $60k+). The Cummins has been great, the Dodge aspect of it has been $hitty. As for the DR350, I'm going to town to pick up some supplies and will be trying to reassemble it today. I may have to get on here and ask some questions hoping for quick responses as per putting the head back on and getting the timing right (hint hint Mr. Bender). Wish me luck.

Yes, living out here does have its ups and downs.
I grew up in the hill country of Colorado and moved to this damned desert in the 90's. It took some adjusting to get used to, but not I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We measure our land out here in sections (square miles) not acres, I'm 22 miles away from the nearest person, I have all the dirt trails to ride, and this area of the country is rather historical. 20 miles east of me is where the United States was last successfully invaded by an enemy force (Pancho Villa). Plus I can sight in my rifles or do target shooting from my back porch and not have to worry about having a 3rd world country as a backstop. (Don't worry, there's nothing on the Mexican side of the border other than coyotes and drug smugglers). But yes, being all the way out here does suck when it comes to getting help working on things and having to drive an hour to get to town. PS. try using Sea Breeze astringent on your shingles

Good luck. My last attempt to play mechanic ended poorly. And I would give anything to not live in a craphole city. Enjoy your time meditating (putting stuff together)

TWO quick questions:
I have the draging clutch issue. I bought the cover gasket and the 2 thrust washers already. Are the clutch basket nut and lock washer reusable items or is it best to get a new ones? If it is reusable, blue or red loctite?

Blue. Clutch cable adjustment is touchy on these things and can cause the dragging clutch/difficult finding neutral problem - make sure it' adjusted properly.

I bought the new gasket ( didn't need to use it, my cover came off clean) and new thurst washers, used the lock washer and nut back again with blue loctite. Red will sometimes pull the threads if you ever have to take it apart again. You can either cut down (sand) the back side of the basket or use a washer/spacer to give a little extra expansion clearance. I made a ~.025" spacer out of stainless sheet stock. So far it works good.

I adjusted it every which way from loose to beyond tight. I would still always kill when popped into 1st. When I bought it the motor was absolutly filled with gas from a bad float valve/petcock issue. Maybe that had something to do with it.
I'll check all the frictions and steels and check for drag in the basket before I get to taking everything apart. How much clearance is too much? I guess I can look in the manual. OK jut looked and didn't find anything in my manual. Thanks guys. I going on a trip so I hope to get to it in two weeks. Wish I could get it done now. TDC
